only the top eight seed reflect performances at the 1998/2002 World Cup and country's world ranking over the last three years.

if a nation is not good enough for top seed then it is at the mercy of the geographical context

the rest (pot 2,3,4) just reflect a geographical spreading not the performance

pot 2 - all african nations + latin america+australia
pot3 - 100% european nations
pot 4- asian nations + north america

But Spain, contrary to the Dutch and the Czechs, featured at the last World Cup.
True, "if it was up to me" I meant.

    THE RIVALRY KICKS OFF

With the seedings made public, putting Germany and Holland in a position where they can already meet each other in the group stages, arguably Europe's fiercest rivalry kicks off well before the ball will roll this summer.

Germany's Bild Zeitung and Holland's Telegraaf have fired the first shots with headlines along the lines of "Sound the alarms; the Dutch are coming!" and "The doom scenario: GERMANY"

The stakes are much higher than they were during Euro2004 and so we are likely to see much dirtier play between the two nations than two years ago when the Dutch and Germans mocked each other in the media and in real life: for instance when fans on either side hung up controversial banners over border crossings or set up screens showing the opponent's humiliating football moments from the past in each other's major cities.

Germany versus Holland. If it's on the cards, the world will know.

How Mexico is in Pot #1 and we are not is beyond me. Hopefully we will face Italy in the group stage and show them how to play football.
