Petr Cech Voted World’s Best Goalkeeper

The International Federation for Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) have released their list of top goalkeepers for 2005. Heading the list is Chelsea’s Petr Cech, second in the same list in 2004, tops the billing with 175 points.

AC Milan’s Brazilian keeper Dida is in second place with 84 points less than Czech Cech, whereas 2004’s winner, Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus, slides down into third place with 78 points.

Flamboyant free-kick and penalty-taking leader of Libertadores and FIFA CWC Toyota Cup Japan 2005 winner Rogério Ceni (SPFC) is the top South America-based keeper with 31 points and a ninth place.

Africa’s representative sneaks in at the tail end; Espanyol’s excellent Kameni waving the flag for Cameroon. A new record was set by Olympique Lyon’s Gregory Coupet, debuting in the list at the ripe age of 33.

The list of 22 players published by German statistical body IFFHS is dominated by goalies from Brazil, Argentina and Spain with three candidates apiece. We welcome alternative lists of a top ten that Goal.com readers find more to their own tastes...

This list is pretty funny, the only thing that I agree with is Cech being the 1st. It's undeniable. Dida the 2nd best? I have seen him spilling shots all over allowing tap-ins. TBH some of the GKs r good enough to be listed, with Abbiati to name.

From the IFFHS' site, "Official results of the last voting."

Is this just a poll? If so, it means exactly squat. If it's some sort of stats thing, I'd like to see their formulae.

IFFHS is a joke.
if it isnt calling liverpool the best team in the world, then its calling the epl the best league in the world and peter cech the best keeper in the world.
its a biased thing, heavily in favour of the english.
