Don't fool yourselves, he is in a worse shape than Neto was, when he arrived, without even considering the smoking issue.
We are not considering someone who can replace Buffon, maybe just someone who can help him remain on his toes, somewhat...

    And is Buffon going to break any records this year?
    Buffon (619 games in A) needs 29 appearances in the league this season to beat Maldini's record (647). He played 30 last season so if Szczesny will get to play more than Neto then Gigi can say goodbye to this record. :scared:

    I wan't him to beat this record!! So, we should let Szczesny play the CL-matches.

    How old is this guy? I have watched him perform miracle saves for Roma. He's definitely one of the best keepers in Serie A. Good signing. How much cash for him?

    @piotrr Your opinion, please. ;)

    They already made a keeper investment the previous year so it's pointless for them to buy another keeper in Szczesny even if they wanted to. They run on a tight budget.
    it's just a bit worrying for me that we plan to replace Buffon with a Roma and Arsenal reject, hopefully we know what we're doing. if he turns out great 20m for a starting keeper is peanuts, if not then 20m for backup keeper is way too much

    How is he a Roma reject? :shifty:

    Roma run on a tight budget and already have a young keeper lined up. They couldn't afford it even if they wanted to.

    Why would Arsenal want him back(even if they wanted to) when they have Cech? How does that make Szczesny an Arsenal reject for that matter ?

    Important thing is he was one of the best keepers in the league last season and hence we decided to buy him based on his current form.

    This whole sentiment about 'replacing' Buffon needs to die because no one can adequately replace him. Real Madrid are doing just fine by replacing Casillas with Navas who's one of those 'non-fancy' keepers just like Szczesny.

    Exactly.

    He was great in Rome and fans loved him there. But they got a Brazilian GK waiting who seems very good, so they don't want to spend another 15mln on a Gk with heavy wages.

    People are gonna be surprised with our Polak boy. He's gonna do great here as he's a great GK.

    How many matches of him did you watch? He's not a reject, actually he is very underrated. @piotrr

    He is a Roma and Arsenal reject because both had an option to have him in their team before we snatched him up, but chose other goalies to be their number ones. Also for Poland he isn't first choice and that is alarming for me that he hasn't been good enough for 3 teams below our level. I know there isn't another Buffon out there, but is this guy really the best we can do replacing Gigi?
