Well if we're not going to pay the wages that World Class players want then we're not going to improve short of finding a new Del Piero. Surely as the amount of money coming in to the club is improving every year, so will our wage budget.

Its not about the wage budget.Sure its increasing every year.But its about the wage cap.We havent had a player earn more than 6m in the last 5-6 years and its probably going to stay that way until we reach the level of other top clubs financially.

Also the notion of Cavani taking a wage cut is just dreaming too much cos you can easily find EPL teams who possibly have better projects than us willing to offer similar wages he earns at PSG if not more.Also lets not forget he plays for a Champions League contender,not some obscure Russian team.PSG have made a huge investment on him so its safe to assume he is in their plans for the long term.

Agreed. Just because our new strikeforce isn't shit like one involving Matri that doesn't mean we're 'set' as far as competing in the CL goes.

If we switch to 4-3-3 then I have no problem with Llorente being our go to striker because he'd be putting up even better numbers with service from two great Wingers

But if we're sticking to a 2 striker formation then somebody like Cavani would be a dream signing.

Swapping a 20 year old Pogba who has years ahead of him for a 27 year old Cavani really doesnt make much sense financially.If anything i'd want a equally good talent or atleast something close to him(not in terms of playstyle but in talent levels) if we were to sell him.I'd take cash + Verratti if an opportunity were to arise.Verratti is only 21,will be loyal to us and has years ahead of him.I tend to think long term normally.

Anyways this is a moot argument since we cant afford Cavani's wages.

Well it does if you do the math. In 12-13 we made €65.3 million total in the CL and that was reaching the quarter-finals. If those rumours are true they are willing to give Cavani + Money, even if it's €10 or €15m in the end we would end up with Cavani and give or take €80m. And since I personally believe he could take us that far in the CL, oh does it make sense.

So going by what you're saying(not assuming this Cavani transfer),you believe we'll flop in the UCL again next season ? What if make the quarters again and earn a similar figure to the 12-13 season ? We wouldnt have sold Pogba and at the same time would've made a massive chunk of that CL money.Pogba's value would've gotten higher in the process and we would be guaranteed of making more money in the long term than this swap deal would bring.And no,even with Cavani,i dont think we'll be close to that CL crown.Too many competitors atm and a lot of luck is needed for a team like ours.

But then ,you've excluded wages out of this discussion and that in itself will be a huge financial burden on us.
