our biggest obstacle just won coach of the year, so no
ah so when conte wins awards it's okay and fair, but when messi and other barca and madrid players win awards, suddenly the awards are unfair.

Dude, we were beyond boring. There is no coach in the world that could make them play more lethargically than Capello. It's like all they trained to do was sit around in a straight 442. That's why I called him a footballing terrorist.
He seems to be a perfect fit for the Russian NT. Defensive and counterattacking. So far they had an impressive run under Capello.

I don't know how you can say both can be "destroyed" in a high pace game. I can't even remember the last time Barzagli has been beaten, let alone destroyed.

Chiellini does get way too much of the ball in attacking areas. It's the function of our system when Pirlo is marked. Him and Barza are the only men open but in any case, has nothing to do with his defending. Chiellini's defensive mistakes have mostly come from wide areas because he's playing as a wide CB so to speak.

The differences between playing CB in a 3 man and 4 man line are quite stark. I mean, in a 3 man line you're basically man-marking the whole match which would be hell for any CB. Chiellini hasn't been as poor as you think IMO. The only CB with adequate cover is Bonucci. Barzagli and Chiellini have no real cover, they're basically man-marking.

And I'm not trying to say they're all world class, that's just you putting words in my mouth quite frankly. Barzagli is definitely world class though.

But honestly, how many CB rotations in a 4 man line would you take than ours? Surely not more than 5.
There's no doubt that Barzagli has been a quality player ever since he joined us, he was/is by far the best defender of ours. So I'm not really questioning him individually, more like a whole package. Yes, I know we were unbeaten and we held our own, but it was mainly a successful Serie A season. Our defense does not look impressive at all in Europe. They were all making many mistakes and looked way too fragile, even against 'weak' teams. I've actually seen Chiellini screw up many times in defense all on his own and he was not out wide. I know what you mean when you say he gets too much of the ball in attacking areas, but most of the time it's actually Pogba/Marchisio coming deep to get the ball. I don't rate Bonucci (especially as an individual -- I think he'd be a disaster in 4 man defense) but many times he had a better and more confident match than Chiellini over the past year or so. I do agree Chiellini is a better player for 4 man defense, but noone should be denying his poor form and brain farts.

If we really want to buy one big star in june and we are looking for a winger we should at least consider Mata. He was brilliant at his prime and current circumstances at Chelsea for sure won't help him back to superb form.
If I were Marotta, I would ask for loan with an option to buy :beppe:
