There's that side of it, but it's also that football is just so much more interesting if good players are spread around so that there are plenty of good teams.

It's shit seeing a player you really enjoy watching for a second- or third-tier club being signed for a top-tier club only to sit on their bench.

Has the double whammy of weakening the second-tier side and spoiling a player.

I think it's great seeing lesser teams keeping their players wherever possible, whether it's done in the way that Athletic Club have or if it's just someone like Cagliari holding onto players like Nainggolan and Astori for far longer than they really have any right to in this day and age.

Just sad that it's impossible for small clubs to put together strong teams any more. You're probably never going to see an '85 Verona or a '70 Cagliari ever again.

Udinese, in getting into the CL a couple of times recently, have probably done the most that these smaller teams can possibly hope to achieve before they are forced to sell their best players and return to the ranks of the also-rans.

Exactly! Personally some of the players that I admire the most are players that have those attributes. Ale, Gigi, Totti, Raul, Gattuso
Wouldn't include Gattuso in that.

i'm still so sad about beckham

Man utd was allways his big team. yet went to real and quit his career really.

Why david ? that man could have gone past every legend united had. He could have reached his actual potential, and stayed there.

When Di Natale said no to juve it hurted. but so much respect for him really

Totti, Alex and Gigi all have had their loyalty tested the most. Some of the greatest players in history. They could have gone anywhere they wanted whenever they wanted.

imo Del piero and totti are kind of a special case because of they mean much more to their fans than others but with del piero the loyalty was tested in serie B. Someone like Gigi on the other hand had the world at his feet and stayed with the team, i dont think it gets any more loyal than that.

And did he? If his staying to play in Serie B isn't testimony to his loyalty than I don't know what is.
It was just a fun fact.

Del Piero staying in serie b was one thing. The way he rolled back the years for juve, and went on to have 3 astonishing years, was beyond everthing

So we're allegedly interested in Benteke. Personally i'd take him. I never trust the gigantic, man-eating hype cloud that floats all over the Premier League but after watching a lot of Villa games for Benteke and out of boredom, he's a legit goalscorer. I'm all for it tbh.

They would want way too much for it to be a good option. If Juve were to want to pay a large sum for an EPL striker, give me Lukaku any day. Guy is going to be a star and Chelsea is making him mad loaning him out for no reason.

Lukaku would be interesting too. Villa would want quite a bit for Benteke but I imagine if he gets the option to join us he'll push for it quite a bit

No top PL clubs have any interest or need for him, Clearly he's not going to Barca/Real so we're about as good as it will get for him right now if we really do want him. Without having to worry about the previously listed clubs offering him some stupid money.
