The thing that worries me most about going to a back 4 is that although as a team I think we have the potential to function better in all competitions, individually our central defenders are not all that great. The trio of Chiellini, Barzagli and Bonucci works as they have a good mix and as a unit defensively they are good. they suffer against teams who have pace on the wings and attack out wide because Lich and Asa are asked too much of them and then the Pirlo offering zero defensive skills to help out effects it also. So by moving to a back 4, we can prevent teams from pressing us on the wings and it may even help Pirlo somewhat, but I do have concerns on how Chiellini and Barzagli function together as the two CBs. The other factor is that Bonucci seems to be the man who does the passing moving forward from defence, Chiellini and Barzagli don't really do it...if Pirlo is having an off day then how does it work?
I would just like to know what funds are available if we do not sell Pogba. The thought of losing a player who is destined to be a world player of the year in a few years time doesn't sit right with me. We shouldn't be selling the future of the club, we should be selling and making changes to players who are nearing the end or are not good enough.
I would like to see what a midfield trio of Vidal, Pogba and Asamoah is like with the attacking/creative spark coming from the final third rather than deep in midfield from a player who is in his mid 30s. I know football has changed since Lotti was at Milan but Pirlo played in a midfield that had Kaka a head of him and that worked as well...we do not necessarily need to play with two wingers off the main striker but even add one player who can link up with our midfielders and be that link up in the final third. That is what we lack...
we talk about Llorente not being good enough but if he had better service he could offer so much more. His wages are big but if we bring in quality wingers, names such as di maria for example, their wage demands would be double. That is the reality in the football world today, good players cost money...if we cant afford to pay them then we need to settle for average players. I personally want llorente to stay unless someone offers 25 million for him and we can replace him with a player who is better...but then again, cavani at 8 plus million wages isn't doable.
