Apparently Real Madrid have offered Pirlo a 3-year contract. Ancelotti has asked for him. He could be used in the deal for Higuain.
If we do let go of Pirlo this summer it surely signifies a 4-1-2 midfield shape rather than the 1-4-2 we're playing at the moment. If Pirlo leaves you can bet your ass that Diamanti or some other attacking midfielder is coming.
Or perhaps we could finally try giving Giovinco the free offensive role that he had when he showed a bit of promise. It would open for a better use of the squad, surely.

Furthermore Pirlo has been underwhelming at the most crucial times of our season. He looks to have lost some pace and is beginning to fail those amazing midfield dribbles where he throws two guys and opens up a ton of space. He tends to lose the ball in those situations and start counter attacks for the other teams.

Furthermore Pirlo has been underwhelming at the most crucial times of our season. Pirlo may be old and slow, but literally no one besides him and maybe one or two more have his long passing, vision and ability to dictate the play. For me he is priceless.
I remember the Grygera the left back. 
It's one thing to ask a player to do the same thing further up the pitch or from deeper. Which is why I agree with the Diamanti theory, however I don't know if he'll provide the same results as Pirlo. However, it's completely different to ask a left footed player to move the right more than a few times a season. Especially if they're a full back.
Asamoah is a really good athlete, intelligent, who seems to have adjusted to the left side. (still think he's better in the center) Not every player is like that. Sweini wasn't a traditional winger. He was always more of a playmaker. The number of players with the skill and mindset to play multiple positions without losing step are few.

I think it is debatable that the best system for the current/potential squad is to play with a CAM or a triquesta instead of a regista.
