If we want to continue playing 3-5-2, we then need wing backs who can cross and contribute offensively. That would mean getting a new LWB (we need a LB anyway) and an upgrade on Lichtsteiner who sadly, isn't good enough offensively. I hoped Isla would be that player but I'm losing faith in his future here.

If we don't have wing backs who can cross and contribute offensively, then by all means we should switch back to the 4-3-3, which I'd like.

Robben is more consistent though than Nani, although I would prefer Nani anyhow. Robben's price tag is way too steep in consideration of what you get. Also I have a feeling that Robben will not work in Serie-a where the defenders have some idea of what they are doing and are more as a unit and gathered.
Everytime i think of Nani, i think of this :sergio:

many of you are so overrating italian defences, especially those of midtable teams. In Italy defences are more gathered?Okay, then why was Robben against the best italian defence looking like beast of a wing player that he used to be?
Beast? Which game are you talking about? Robben and Ribery had the best game since the past five years against Barca but other than that I believe we are seeing a declining Robben. BM does not want to keep him yet his fee is higher than how much he returns in sense of points to the team. Robben is a good player, no doubt, but IMO declining and not very dynamic. I would prefer to have a dynamic player instead who, if he is supposed to be a starter, justify his fee and salary on the basis of expected points he will gain the team. Robben might offer us dimensions we currently do not have considering we do not use wingers but the question is what dimensions we seek. Even if we seek wingers, does he offer things we want? However, I do not think there is any truth to the rumors, Conte seems determined to play 3-5-2 and there is no place for Robben there.

Regarding the italian defences I am saying that the pace of the game is much slower in Italy and there is much less room (look at Krasic) roam in and ways to roam in them. Robben and Krasic are very, very, different players but they move rather similar movements until final third where Robben brakes in and shoots and Krasic moves out and crosses. Anyhow, in Italy the defences are more often composed and ready to take care of those kind of threats. Although the defenders might technically and physically be less superior to German defenders they are tactically well superior to Germans and ultimately therefore better prepared to manage less dynamic players like Robben and Krasic. While they have greater difficulty against more dynamic players and physical players. Robben looked as "average" as any against Juve.

Suarez, Kolaroc/Lulic and a Diakite level defender on the cheap. Close mercato. Next season, go all in for Verratti, but I see us fail on that front and I wouldn't be surprised if Hernanes comes here to replace Pirlo, who is no longer going to be central to our plans next season IMO. In fact I think Conte is going to work on tweaking the formation further to reduce our dependence on Pirlo.

If we get Hernanes that means Pirlo has definitely played out his part in this team. I also think it suggests a permament shift to a 3-5-1-1 or a 4-2-3-1.

Oh Hernanes :tuttosport:

Better, 4231 with Hernanes than 3511, although I see Pogba starting even more frequently next term so Conte may choose to stick with the 3511.

If we can spend 20m on Hernanes and 30m on Suarez and get Lulic for about 10-12m, and make some sales while we are at it, I'd say it's a legendary mercato.
