The more I think about this, the more I realise that we will not go after any big name signing in the summer. Look at the fwd dept as things stand. We have Vucinic, Gio, Quag, Matri and Llorente, assuming Bendtner has no further part to play for us, and nor does Anelka.

We might sell one of Matri or Quag in the summer and replace them with a Belfodil/Muriel kind of player amd that will in all likelihood be our movement for the fwd line. I don't see us sell either Gio or Vucinic, which means that one of them will play SS with Llorente as a starter next season. And one will come off the bench.

This means we are probably looking at Vucinic, Gio, Matri/Quag, Llorente and Muriel/Belfodil. The only so called big name possibility we might be interested is in is JoJo, and at a pinch, Tevez or Villa with the former being the most likely to affect our interest since Matri/Quag could be used as a bargaining chip in that deal and coz he's the youngest of the trio with the least wages of the lot. And even if that happens, I just don't see how JoJo, Gio and Vucinic will coexist without getting unhappy. This is why, we'll probably go for a young gun like Muriel and close the forward line for next season. It's a bit of a shame, but I don't see too many other plausible scenarios, based on how Marrotta works.

It would be extremely unwise to buy yet another SS and only settle with just one finisher.
Since we laready have two SSs, the wisest choice would to invest to a second finisher of this class, unless we use a trident!! (i sure hoper we do)
Because in the unfortunate but possible event of having Llorente unavailable, we would have no one of his class to use for a starter place and having 2 great class SS benched at all times...

Cassano is not a finisher, SSs come in abundance in serie A and are easy to buy and anyways he was considered more of a problem, rather than a solution...so there wasnt actually competition...

what was our failed 'offer' for Cavani?
30 mil, but only a part of it being cash, the rest would be players...
35mil cash in installments as we did with Asamoah and Isla would do...

Many would do the job, but i am convinced we could have signed Cavani if we were to offer what we commited on Asamoah and Isla...
You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think a) we have the money to sign a player like Cavani b) Napoli would ever sell to us.

30M? And the rest?

He's worth almost double that and you know FULL WELL that player wages are important too, its not just about transfer fees.

a) we have since we already comitted this sum and still had to waste 11mil more, just to bring our player back, not to mention +10mil more wasted on Padoin and Peluso...
rather than using our youngsters (like Maronne and Sorensen, who are already better)
b) there is a point there, but when money is involved, esp that much money, any Lavezzi and Cavani can go, Marotta should have closed the deal even before the transfer window started, so that Napoli would focus with the cash on hand to find a replacement.
We wasted valuable time on unrealistic RVP targets and our whole managerial approach was...kak...

We can spend 100M on all sorts of depth/squad players yet it still doesnt change the fact that we CANNOT buy Cavani from Napoli. Get it through your thick skull.

EDIT:

I like how you say RVP was an unrealistic choice and yet the only reason we didnt sign Cavani was because we signed Padoin, Giaccherini etc

The reason we have failed to sign Cavani is that we have wasted time with unrelaistic targets and spent our money on subs and co own deals...
we have already spent the money needed to buy him.

My guess is that we'll drop Bendtner and Anelka.

We'll keep Matri, and sell Quagliarella, the reason being because Matri is our only true CF who can rotate with Llorente.

Because our "creativity" or "playmaking" is not the problem but rather our finishing is (but we picked up Llorente hoping this will solve our problems), we'll look to invest in a younger SS with a lot of potential rather than an already made star. We'll look to sign a player like Muriel.

Llorente, Matri, Muriel, Giovinco, Vucinic is my guess at what our forward department will look like come next season.
