If we had better scouting last few years instead spending money on crap players we would already be cl contenders. look at porto, benfica. they never spent more than 10M on a player and they reach the cl knock-out stage almost every year. south america (not just brazil and argentina but other countries too) always had and will always have talented strikers and wingers, and the players that we have there are average not only in cl but even in italy. so the main thing we need is not a player of 30-40M but better scouting system.
its not so much the better scouting, we already knew about James Rodriguez before he joined porto, in fact we almost signed him, it's just that portugese clubs are prepared to take the risk more so than the big Italian clubs. In Italy i would say Udinese and Catania have the most effective scouting network abroad. Funnily enough Atalanta have produced the most number of players within their region through their scouting network than any team in Europe according to marcotti

You do realise that Porto and Benfica, both being from Portugal, are more attractive options to young Brazilian players starting out in Europe right?
If you paid any heed to all the time and money invested on bringing in youth players the past couple years you might have a different opinion. Bonatini, Gabriel Appelt, Sorensen, Masi, Gabbiadini Pogba, Ouasim Bouy and Richmond Boakye to name but a few

i said south america not just brazil. so you tell me that a young talented player from colombia or chile is dreaming about coming to porto more than coming to juventus. no way. and half of the players you named will never even play a single game for us.

Vidic is not even in the top 10 man. I've been watching him and the best description would be stupid butcher. Barza is definitely in top 5.

vidic is the most overrated player, he is not in the top 3, kompany is better that vidic, also ramos is also overrated and is lucky to be in the top 10
vidic missed most of the season. when he came back in the starting lineup manchester had 6-7 clean-sheets in a row. kompany is not better than him but close.
yes ramos is overrated because people think he is a top5 cb but he is in the top10 because there are not many world class cb out there

Ok, so not just Brazil then, but you can see why most South Americans would want to go to Portugal/Spain first to acclimatise right? There's more to it in then just prestige for kids as young as 17,18 or whatever, the onus for a lot of them will be starting somewhere that they feel comfortable with, which is where language and cultural factors come into it.
