If he wants to succeed in Europe he will discard it. That's a necessary transformation. Playing 3 at the back against Barca, Real, Bayern will always turn into 5 and we'll have one less player up the pitch.
Exactly.

There is no point playing 3 def against 1 attacker while your flanks are left exposed. In Italy teams play slower tempo and it works.
Again, this. We lack power because we play 3 CBs and 3 CMs. No attacking wingers is killing our creativity. In Serie A we could win with every formation this season imo. We need to make changes for Europe if we ever want to go any further than quarters.

Using Napoli as example for 3-5-2 being good formation is invalid. Did they go that far really? Exactly.

Only thing about Kolarov he is error prone and is more suited as LWB. I watched him and defensively he is not that good.
I expect quality this season as well.
Didn't watch him alot this season, maybe you right but still would prefer someone better than Peluso who i like and think he is a very good sub option.
A lot of people are talking about the 4-3-3, but we will need a right winger for that formation since Pepe's the only one we have.

Also don't see Conte wanting to discard the back 3 that served so well.
Sanchez-Llorente-Vucinic
(Isla,Pepe/Diamanti?)-(Matri)-(Gio)

Will work great.
No LB is coming you're right.

Peluso, Chiellieni and Asamoah can all play as a LB.

Peluso is better at playing as an LB than he is a LWB.

We don't need a LB. We need that great SS/winger.
You really think Peluso will be good enough to play vs the big guns ala Bayern,Barca,Real?
i like him alot but i think we need someone better.
maybe it's worth giving a shot with Asa there...

Agree again.

Buffon
Storari
Lichtsteiner Barzagli Bonucci Chiellini
Padoin Caceres Regini Peluso
Vidal Pirlo Marchisio
Pogba Marrone/Pirlo Asamoah
Sanchez Llorente Gio/Vuc
Pepe Matri Gio/Vuc

:touched:

Awesome starters, and great depth.
1 problem is that Chiellini is not a good LB while going forward IMO.
he can't cross good,no dribble and techniques to beat his man 1 on 1...yeah he's a rock in defence,so he shoud stay at the CB.

Definately. I can't remember any team that went far in CL in the last 20 years while playing with 3 central defenders.

Asa as a new Zambrotta. I would like Conte to try this.
And yes Chiellini is an awful as LB. One of the the best decisions made by Deschamps was moving him to the center of defense.

Napoli was set up as a 3-4-3 with Hamsik doing a better job following in the strikers, and obviously Lavezzi and Cavani a class above in front.

Our 3-5-2 wouldn't be so bad in Europe if one of the CB's was like Pique with the ball, or attacked the space more.

Someone like Sanchez up front could transform our attack though... so we haven't seen its full potential.

Why not play midfielder instead who has all this as his natural characteristics.

If we're not going to look at signing someone like Alexis Sanchez (looks like he wants to stay in Barcelona anyway) or maybe Jackson Martinez then we should not bother with signing a 'good' 26-28 year old striker like Osvaldo. We already did that with Vucinic, Matri, Quagliarella etc.

If we are going to put €18m-€20m down make it on someone with a lot of potential who might not make an instant impact but will in perhaps 6-12 months. I'm thinking of the money Milan paid for El Shaarawy, Roma for Lamela, or Liverpool for Suarez. We need to develop our own world class players with that initial investment, because we are not even in the market for world class strikers.
That's the thing, we won't be placing big expectations on them, at least not straight away. We already have a good team and Llorente coming in for free.
:agree:

Totally agree. 10/10 post would bang.

The thing is, who? Someone mentioned John Guidetti, the kid is good, had an amazing season in the Eredivisie a year ago scoring 20 goals, scored a lot from penalty kick though. Just 20 years and is not having playing time at Manchester City, maybe we should consider a move for him.

But some other 19-22 goal scorers or SS don't come to my mind. Chelsea won't let Lukaku leave. Álvaro Morata hasn't proved anything but when he has chances in Real Madrid he does well.

Suárez wasn't that young when Liverpool bought him, I think he was 24-25. And he wasn't that cheap, 26.5M€, wish that we had bought him instead :sigh:

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Adám Szalai, Carlos Vela, Heung-Min Son, Iago Aspas, Max Kruse?

And what about the talented Erikssen from Ajax? Have we ever been linked with him?
Would rather sign his friend Viktor Fischer. I'd love to see that guy playing through the center! He always plays wide and tends to cut to the center. And he seems to be very comfortable playing there due to his ability, skills, and inteligence. He also has an sublime technique.

While Eriksen is a bit cold IMO, from what I've seen. I always expected more from him cause everybody seems to rate him.

To be honest I doubt that story is true, only Chelsea made a serious approach and he turned them down.

City are pushing for Pellegrini it seems.
Pellegrini is a top couch, shame how Madrid treated him. He's worked wonders at Malaga, one can only imagine how well he'd work with a club with resources like Man City's, so long as he can adapt to the English game quick enough.

Tuttosport tomorrow - Positive news for Juventus emerges from the meeting with Felicevich, Vidal will renew till 2018 and we've made a breakthrough in potentially signing Sanchez.

If Vidal does renew, then I see Sanchez coming.

He'd get them playing some great stuff too.

Where does this leave Jovetic though? Staying in Florence? Napoli?

Gazetta says something about us getting Sanchez too.
