How much have Porto spent on players from South America who have not been a success?

Are they like Udinese where they buy stacks of promising players with only a small proportion working out for them?
They tend to buy 7-15 players per season, but generally they are filling positions in the team, rather than Udinese who buy to send out to all their satellite clubs and on loan. So the failure rate isn't high, as most play at least some part.

If you looking at failures there are the likes of Souza, Walter, Valeri, guys they can loan out or sell back for similar.

Hypothetically speaking in regards to Gep's post ,imo if Hernanes were to come here it would be a midfield trio of either Pogba-Hernanes-Marchisio OR Pirlo-Marchisio-Pogba.That is the way i see it.(I dont see Hernanes and Pirlo starting together plus it would be a defensively fragile trio with those two in the middle as well).

Anyways i'm in agreement with most here.Keep Vidal and buy a forward who would come at a reasonable cost.

The players they buy aren't actually unknown jewels. Falcao was great for River Plate, Jackson Martines was also doing good in mexico. They are just willing to invest and take the chance.
That's the key.

Top clubs have such thorough scouting coverage these days that I asssumer everyone knows about pretty much everyone.

I was under the impression that Porto do a lot of 'co-ownership deals with 3rd parties.
They do.

Is Vidal dead?

The key to our recent success is due to our midfield. I personally wouldn't wanna sell Vidal at all. But can't help to think what a partnership we'll have in Suarez/Llorente. Surely we can raise funds by selling a few of our turds and sign Suarez outright without sacrificing Vidal.

What do you Vidal/Suarez Lovers think of the rumours of selling Arturo to fund Suarez's move here? As I've read on VS.

Also we're looking into Hernanes, a player I must admit I like a lot.

So Suarez/Llorente front line?
Marchisio, Pirlo, Hernanes middle three?

Would we be losing out on that much in Vidal leaving but to secure Suarez and create a formidable frontline that we've been crying out for but not losing out too much in the middle? Well Vidal would be a massive loss don't get me wrong and I shall leave my tin hat down ;) but Hernanes is a class player. Or would you rather us keep Vidal and search for another forward, the cheaper option as usual.
My response was to this part of his post.

'Transfers depend on results'

Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that the club will only discuss summer transfer targets once the season is over.

The Bianconeri have been linked with a number of players for next term, including Stevan Jovetic and Alexis Sanchez.

But the board member has insisted that the team is concentrating entirely on the current campaign.

“We are focusing on the end of this season,” he told Rai Sport. “The team we have now is giving us a lot of satisfaction.

“We are fighting to win the championship and soon we'll be playing in the [quarter-finals] of the Champions League.

“We'll talk about the transfer market later. What we do also depends on the final results that this team achieves.”

......

Just like i thought.I posed the same question few weeks ago and some dint agree with me here. For instance if we make the CL final or win the CL ,we might expect a Jovetic or maybe even a Suarez type player.

If we dont go beyond the quarters ,a player like Sanchez is the best we can expect just IMO how i feel.
