I'll laugh if Bilbao doesn't sell him.

Arrogant shithead of an owner if they don't.
How is the owner being arrogant?

He's doing what he thinks is best for his club, which is exactly what he ought to be doing.

I can't honestly say I don't think he's doing the right thing, from Athletic Bilbao's point of view.

The money isn't hugely important to them, particularly having just sold Martinez and it's important to them to send a message to clubs and their own players that it's not easy for players to leave.

That policy, in the long term, may well be worth more than the 15-20m they could get for selling Llorente.

Can't Llorente pay compensation to get out his contract in January?
You mean going down the route of using the Webster Ruling?

There's pretty much an unwritten rule among clubs and players not to make use of that option.

In theory, he probably could, though.

There is no way that Bilbao will let Llorente go for under €36 mill this january. If it was about money, they would already have sold him this summer.

Bilbao's president said that they don't need money, they need time to replace him. So they don't care if he leaves for free next summer as long as they have replaced him.

If Llorente was worth 20m € this summer he's worth 10m € in January. Bilbao are dumb as fukk IMO!! (and Bielsa is not even playing him since he expected him to be offloaded) ROFL

What need to replace? It seems they don't play him anyway now that he's been out of the squad

Who the heck is gonna pay 36m for a player with six months left on his contract? Bilbao are going to get lowballed for Llorente, or be forced to let him go for free in the summer.

I don't think they'll be forced to let him go for free, because that's what they prefer. Either €36 mill or he goes for free next summer. Nothing in the middle. I don't think their president would change his mind now, would look weak.
