True, i might've jumped to the conclusion, but my god - that post makes so little sense that it's not even worth a response.

Obviously big players are born stars and have the reputation of a world class player before joining a big club, that's clearly how the system works
That's not his point.. His point is that a club such as Juventus should only have players when they peak and reach top level football. He could have been a fan for over 15 years and if that's the case I can fully understand the man. That is how Juventus worked back in the Moggi days. Back when we could spend 35m € on a right back.. What the discussion is all about is whether we should do like Milan and go for a single big name or get a few and hope at least one of them turns out to be a top class player. I think the choice is obvious since Vidal has already turned into what i like to call a top class player no the least.. Doumbia isn't a very good player anyway and I understand his rage if the man expected someone like Suarez.......

Yes, I remember Del Piero, Camoranesi, Zidane and Henry all being established big names when we signed them .
Those weren't vital signings at the time. When Juventus needed a RB they bought Thuram for 35m €. When we needed a Keeper we bough Buffon for 40m €, when we needed a midfielder we bought Nedved for 42m € etc etc etc - those players you talk about are, down to good scouting, "investments" because they weren't signed to immediately fill the gap. That is the situation as of right now - when there's an urgent need of a player you'll have to pay what it takes. Even Destro (who could be a flop) will not come cheap. 15m € for a 21 year old with one good season - WOW..

Henry was a flop btw, didn't make it in Italy at all - he went really fkn cheap to Arsenal..

[/COLOR]Pepole need to get on with the times, juve wont spend 40 mil on a single player anymore, those days are long gone.
today signing a player for 40 means paying 40m more over 3-4 years in wages and taxes, its not like the old days when players were
earning human salarys.

Ofc.. But then again - times were different. You didn't have to compete with Oil clubs with unlimited budget.. And as i remember we only signed 1 or 2 players a season back then. Even with our own budget we should have enough for such signings. Signings which i hardly understand even Moggi fans can applause to. Dont get me wrong. They were excellent players but how would you like it if we had a GM who signed Pastore for 42m € and spend almost the entire budget on a single player with such obvious weak players in other positions? Marotta has done a good job and I support his philosophy completely.

Zidane was good scouting but also incredible luck. None had expected him to become the worlds' best...

The problem is that now Juve is a big club only on paper !
Juve is not Porto and Atletico Madrid, and doesn't has to be compared with such clubs. If all of you is asked one question..."do you want Juve to be the same as Porto" I guess the answer is obvious. Have you ever asked yourself why there is soooo much youth players discovered by Porto, Udineze and so on. Because there are much better conditions for youth in such clubs. There is less pressure... the competition for starting line-up is less tougher, the expectations are lower. So player could improve much easier than in big clubs.

I don want to have a mass quarrel here. I only want to say that I would like to see in Juve solid players like in Real, Barca, Chelsea, Bayern... and recongnition that Dumbia could be our top striker scares me !!!

We are getting there mate. It takes so much money but we are. Once we've got our hands to a lethal striker the overall team quality will improve. With a player able to do wonders on his own or a player like Cavani who can score on almost every chance he's presented, we will be competitive once again. Within 2-3 years we're definitely Champions LEague title candidates (don't get me wrong but if Chelsea can take on Barca like we saw then it's not down to the best team in the world but a competitive team that can taunt the others)..

I'd be disappointed if Doumbia was our "Top Player" for the attack. It's about ambition, and if we fail in getting RVP/Suarez/JoJo and end up with Doumbia, it'd be a failure, not because he's not a good player, but because we would've failed to acquire targets we had set ourselves as plans A & B.

JoJo + Berbatov on a 2 year contract would be interesting. I realize we aren't going to pay 30 Million for JoJo, but 23 Million isn't out of the question.

'Top player' means nothing to me. I just want a better player than what we have up front, a guy who suits the style better than what we have, someone who can either be or become a champion.

Names mean absolutely sod all to me personally, a name doesn't score, a good and suitable player does.
