ffs i wondered where you been

you don't need the right numbers to know that melo was wrong their.
Okay Janna. Let's just say for one second that the math was correct.

Would it be justified to to sell Quag, Matri, Giovinco, Vucinic and Bendtner to make room for Van Persie?

Call me crazy, but I'd rather have 4-5 decent strikers in the squad, than one world class player playing over 50 games, 90 minutes per match.

No she does not have a point. It's an unvalid argument because she randomly stopped the timeline to her liking. We could have gone even further and said "if we didn't play with any strikers for the past 5 seasons and saved all the money we would potentially have spent on their salaries, we would have Christiano Ronaldo by now". It's just a stupid argument because we signed the striker who were available to our funds, some of them signed in a time where we had no strikers to field at all because of injuries.

Exactly
Going by Janna logic we could've had RVP and a couple of our strikers instead of the likes of Isla/Giac/Asamoah/Quag/Gio.

I know it doesn't work like that but sometimes we should consider getting one WC player instead of 4 average playing especially knowing that his effect on our game would be greater than those 4 players combined.

I don't know about you, but I am not that keen on taking a huge financial risk right now. We did it in 2009 and are still suffering from it.

i don't think thats crazy, i call that intelligent squad building, i completely empathise with Marotta at times and how he is working within a very restrictive market which is why i said mid way through the summer that there would be no way we will sign a big name striker, just merely good players added to the squad for depth.

Exactly
That is not crazy to have a good squad but it is possible to spend a huge amount on a player and still have a good squad. We dont really need to have 5 strikers who are all good but none are elite. We can look to 1 elite player and keep Vucinic and Quag to partner him in attack. Then just bring back Immobile in the summer so we can have 4 strikers at Conte's disposal.

I would not be against for example next year if we took the 30 million we have marked for our "top player" and sold Giovinco (15-20) and Matri (15)
then take the 60 million and use however much of it we need to to sign an elite franchise player. We have elite players in midfield, goal and defence .. why dont we have a franchise attacker. Historically Juventus always had a top player upfront we could count on. Falcao would be a great signing but I feel cuz he is 27 or 28 it would not be worth investing 50 million into him. We should sign a franchise player who will be around for a decade so it offsets the high transfer. For example Buffon cost a fortune but he was a bargain given the years of service he gave us.

therefore I would look towards a player like Neymar and would have no problem spending 50-60 million for him. Because he is a franchise player that the attack would be built around. If Neymar was unavailable I would look to Jovetic. But Neymar would also bring a lot of fans, media hype and money to the club. I have no doubt he would succeed wherever he went and he will hold his value long term.

I see ppl claim Juve can't buy a top priced player but i feel that is nonsense. It is much smarter to allocate the money towards a great talent then scatter it 15-20 million at a time on average players who are stop gap solutions cuz deep down we know they are not elite quality. The guys who claim we cant spend 50 million should look at the squad we have .. its not like we need to go out and buy 5 new players to improve it every season as we did in the past. If we could go back in time and prevent the money we spent on Diego, Amauri, Iaquinta, Matri, Giovinco ... and just put it towards one monster player .. I think we all would. So we should learn from our mistakes.

If we just bought 2 players this summer.. Neymar/Jovetic and then Llorente for free. I think it would be a fantastic transfer season.

you make that sound so easy, we didn't sign Jovetic due to viola fans making threats to the board if they sold him to Juve so in the end DV didn't sell, and neymar? you really think Juve could have lured him amidst interest from teams like Barca?

I don't know what could round more this team. I see quality on every position for the 3-5-2, not so much for the 4-3-3 since a lot of you don't seem to agree that that's the best formation for our team.

I'd bring on an striker of course, not really sure about who. Maybe try to get Kolarov again, he's one of my favorite players on that position, he's not as offensive as the position requires, but for sure he has a great touch on the ball and very good crossings, a potent shoot and good enough defensive covers. I wouldn't get another cb, rather wait for Masi to come back. And maybe just another midfielder, have you ever seen this guy Moussa Sissoko? He's a very talented midfielder, lots of stamina and a nice ball touch, current member of the France National Team; I'd say that he could rotate with Vidal when he needs to rest a bit. I'd let you a video of him with his skills, but I can't see anyone on YouTube. Anyways if you can watch a game of Toulouse I think that you'll agree with me, his style is of a box-to-box as Vidal and IMO he'd do great on Serie A.

On today's BBC transfer gossip:

Newcastle United are in a race with Italian champions Juventus for the signature of 23-year-old Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

Liverpool have had to end their reported pursuit of Didier Drogba, 34, after the former Chelsea striker pledged his future to Chinese employers Shanghai Shenhua.

No chance of drogba then.

Its not as impossible though as people make it out to be. How much do we spend in total each summer? more then enough to sign one top player

Van Persie costed United 24 million pounds.. If we offered anywhere close to that I am sure Arsenal would have been thrilled to send him our way. Its a lot of money to sign elite players but we really need to address the situation without being too attached to our current crop of strikers.

the truth of the matter is rvp didn't even want to move to Italy, eventhough arsenal were prepared to let us have rvp for a little less than what utd ended up paying for him. so that brings me back to my first point it's not all about whether Juve have the money or not, but purely the lack of appeal to bring big names to Italy or circumstances such as rivalry between clubs like ourselves and fiorentina blocks any possibility of a move materialising.

ask yourself this, who was the last big marquee to have arrived in serie A? Diego? Zlatan? (how many years ago was that?) and who were the ones who departed last summer? silva? zlatan? lavezzi? that itself is an indication as to how unappealing it is to play in Italy, the tax levels doesn't help neither.
