I wouldn't get too hung up on the Pirlo replacement. Players with Pirlo specific characteristics are rare in the modern game in any case. Marrone and Appelt are young players which have some characteristics in common with Pirlo. They are players for the future still (still need a lot of work although Marrone has good character already).

If we really do need a temporary vice Pirlo, the answer would be Pizzaro as he has lots of experience and can be had for a reasonably cheap price.

Nainngolan seems more like an allrounder.

To be honest, as it stands today we have: Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Marrone, and Pazienza and have Giaccherini who can play in Marchisio's spot fairly well. I don't think there is a huge rush to go out and find a Pirlo replacement because if that player is ONLY a pirlo replacement, he won't get any playing time unless Pirlo is injured. Best to use some all rounders and groom players like Appelt and Morrone to grow into that role if need be.

1: He would take Modric over DDR, Modric is playing his 2nd consecutive good season - Against DDR who has been world class for 5 seasons so far.
2: He compared Sahin with DDR, that's just hilarious.

For the past 3 seasons, he has definitely been better than De Rossi, even though they're not comparable and both play completely different roles. But Modric has been one of the top midfielders in the EPL in the past 3 years, while De Rossi has been quite inconsistent during those years.

That's just stupid Nick. if De Rossi played in EPL he would get the acknowledgement he actually deserves.
No, De Rossi has been way below par for the past three years.

De Rossi when on form is an excellent midfielder, one of the best in Europe. I do think if he moves to a better team than Roma he can actually go back to displaying that more consistently. Back in the Spalletti days he was amazing, one of the best midfielders in Europe.
