Frankly, I really don't consider Chiellini among the top CBs in Europe anymore. His form dipped considerably in the last years and now Barzagli is clearly better than him. I still like the guy because he has a knack of scoring and is good enough in defense, that a better defender would be very hard to find for us. He is obviously better than Bonucci though.

I prefer Chiellini at LB because of his shakiness in recent years now.

Chiellini never was and will never be a top CB - he doesn't have the (footballing) intelligence to be that and would be no more than a bench player in the pre-calciopoli Juventus.
Juve fans, after calciopoli and the exodus of top defenders from the team, saw in Chiellini what they wanted and needed to see, that's all.

He was the best defender in the league for 2 seasons. And he doesn't lack footballing intelligence. He may be clumsy, but not an oaf. He's a good reader and anticipator of the game.

Montolivo,Caceres and Boriello. This is very nice for squad depth. I would be happy with this for the january mercato especially if there is no obligation with Caceres and Boriello.
Yes. Let's sell Toni, Iaquinta and Amauri and get ToniIaquintaAmauri-junior instead...
We might as well keep Toni. Even if his wage is above all I could imagine. What a pointless transfer that would be.

yep that is exactly what i think except his marking abilities he is nothing special his touch with the ball is bad but the most important he is not intelligent enough to be a top cb

Chiellini have been very error-prone but Bonucci will never ever be anywhere near Chiellini's ability however bad Chiellini ever plays. Even in his worst form Chiellini is mighty superior to Bon. This year Chiellini has been more error-prone that recent years but most likely due to his position. First 10 games in his LB position he was misplaced and positioned wrong all the time but he has gotten (re)used to the position and does a decent job. I'd be veeery happy if we could grab a good LB and get Bon on the bench and Chiellini as CB once again. Chiellini in LB is a short term sollution and everyone knows it, even Bonucci. I don't even think Bonucci has the mentality to be on the top-stage. I could very well be wrong, just a feeling, but I feel like his lacking the mental strength to cope with the pressure. Although he has responded "decently" to all the anger from me and everyone else right now. But even so, sure, he's doing better now than earlier this season but he still stinks. Stinks bad. Doing an OK game against Novara at home is not something I can rely on.

that's the same thing everyone just loves repeating as proof of how great Chiellini is. The thing is that Chiellini has what is needed to stop a big-bodied and relatively slow player like Ibra, who relies more on overpowering his opponent than craftily moving around him - Chiellini has physical presence.

Stopping a nimble, fast and creative forwards, however, requires ability to read the game, anticipate what's gonna happen on the field and react to it before it even happened since it would be too late, otherwise ... this is why Chiellin looks so helpless, way too often, vs such players.

He is way too simplistic and one-dimensional of a player to be considered great.
