2012, I think. He'll probably be released this summer. Then again, we've been thinking that for a while now!

He was good in the first half of the season. On that sort of form he displaced Marchisio from CM, so I don't see how you're under the impression Marchisio would start ahead of him in a 4-4-2 with proper wingers this time barring a "shift to the left" for him (Marchisio). Pirlo/Marchisio and Pirlo/Aquilani are just as flimsy as one another and won't work, anyway.

With Inler in the mix, even in a 4-3-3, Marchisio should struggle to get in. Ideally.
If you average his performances out over the full season though he has been pretty mediocre (as most of the team has been in fairness) . If we are gonna be playing a 4-4-2 again next season then Pirlo and Inler would be first choice right? Why buy Aquilani outright when we already have Claudio to cover for Pirlo, I don't see the point in paying out 10 million on a player when we already have two other guys for that position.

By that same token, Marchisio has been pretty mediocre for both halves of the season. At least there's some evidence that when the team's ticking properly one can actually be "good."

In my opinion, we wouldn't be spending on Aquilani and keeping hold of Melo. So, if it's a three man midfield, then Melo, Pirlo, Inler.

4-4-2 is problematic if we assume Pirlo is a starter, no matter who partners him.

very true, guess we'll have to wait and see what Conte's plans are then. Preferably I'd love to see us keep Melo and play a 4-3-3 (Inler, Pirlo, Melo) with Marchisio as backup.
