the weakest link in our defence is surely Motta, then de ceglie, then Ziegler, then sorensen,then bonucci, then barzagli...with Chiellini and Lichsteiner not at all weak.
It makes no sense to sell Ziegler. As it makes no sense to have Chiellini as the back-up LB. He is strongest in the squad at CB, and has been training and playing there all pre-season. It would suggest Conte is a lunatic an/or dangerously inept, if he is looking to rely upon a LB with perhaps 4/5 weeks in his whole career showing competency in his natural position (de Ceglie), and a tried, tested, respect centreback as the LB back up, who has played cb for a few years now, only very rarely filled in at left back out of emergencies, always leaving our centre back positions hugely weakened in the process, a chiellini who has been learning Conte's apparently infinitely repeated careful movements AS A CB...

Conte do not want 
I refuse to judge Marotta until Wednesday evening but I fear he has left everything too late.
The best re-enforcements made so far have been Lichsteiner, Vidal, and Pirlo. Central midfield was perhaps the least of our problems last season.....defense was our biggest. Bonucci is simply not good enough and if Zenit is willing to offer >8m for him and we get Alves for 13m, its a no-brainer. Throw in Rhodolfo for 8-10m and all of a sudden you have a pretty good defense with left back still a problem.
Left wing is still a problem. Estigarribia is not a bad deal but I do not want to see Pasquato go on loan - he has been too impressive in the pre-season and should be given a chance at least until January - if he cannot break in to the first XI by then, then we can loan him out in the January transfer window - its not like his wages would be a problem for us. I don't see what the downside is in that scenario.
Honestly, if Afellay and Malouda are not going to happen, I would rather splash the cash and get Vargas for 15m for 2 reasons. 1) He is less of a risk compared to Elia; 2) He can also double as a left back which might come in handy.
If I assume the deals for Afellay and Malouda are too difficult, I would do the following:
IN: Rhodolfo (8-10m), Alves (~13m), Vargas (15m)
OUT: Bonucci (8-10m.....Zenit already offered 8m), Pepe (10m - already offered by Zenit), Amauri (6m - already offered by Turkish team...hopefully he bloody accepts one of these offers).......Manninger for ~3m.
NET of those transactions is EU12m on top of the net spend we have done this season (excluding the loan buy outs from last year's accounts) of ~34m. Brings the total net spend to under EU50m.
Alves, Rhodolfo, Barzagli, Chiellini is a huge upgrade on last year's Bonucci, Chiellini, Barzagli, Rinaudo. I have heard good things about Rhodolfo but he is also capable of playing right back which would also come in handy given that Motta is not exactly a reliable sub for Lichsteiner.

today after the game against santos he said that he doesn't want to leave and I doubt sao paulo would let him go, their other defenders suck! I rate him and would love to have him in juve, but he's not the best defender playing in brazil. at least not right now.

he would be a starter for us. he's not the best defender in brazil but he's def top 5, we could see him playing on brazil nt soon as we'll have a friendly where mano menezes is just going to call players there are playing here.
