Given Lugano can be had for peanuts (3.5m max), I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Juve going for both Lugano AND Alex. Bonucci would be sold in that instance. You could even have a defensive back 4 of Lichsteiner-Lugano-Alex-Chiellini in that case assuming they can work together. Either way, having your 4 choice center backs as Alex, Lugano, Chiellini, Barzagli is a big upgrade on Bonucci, Chiellini, Barzaglie, Sorensen from last season.

Nani is a target no doubt about that and its doable but again, our bid is quite low - I read 15m pounds or around EU17m for a player worth over 20m (most likely ManU would ask for 25m).

If Juve want Vargas, Fiorentina want either Quagliarella or Bonucci and not Martinez or Amauri.

My prediction is that Lugano will arrive regardless. The left wing and additional center back signing may not occur till right at the end of August.

Alex will only come if Bonucci is sold - so far Zenit and Fiorentina are interested - would be sold to Fiorentina if they decide on Vargas over Nani. Perotti ain't going to leave his club by the sounds of it and Bastos depends on Alex because Vidal represents 1 non-EU signing and we only have 1 left. But Bastos looks unlikely.

I don't mind selling Bonucci for 10m (that's possible given that Zenit already bid 8m and the rumor is we can get Alex for around 10m) if we can get Alex for similar money and Lugano is basically free almost (3.5m max with a possibility of zero).

If Juve opt for Vargas instead of Nani - expect Juve to look at the possibility of getting Aquilani at a discounted price which is possible - perhaps for 10-12m.

My dream scenario (which is not unrealistic) is Lugano, Alex and Nani. Key player to be lost would be Bonucci. Defense works out to be and extra 5-6m at most after netting off Bonucci......Nani would cost around 20-23m being realistic. Excluding last year's budget (which included the purchases of Quags, Pepe, Motta & Matri), total gross spend would be around EU65-75m. Juve should be able to raise EU15-25m from Sissoko (already done at 7m), Melo (loan up front of 1.5m), Amauri & Iaquinta (probably 8m in total if not more), Manninger (1-2m) and Martinez (4-5m?).

Would be an excellent mercato if that is the case.

Squad:

GK
Buffon
Storari
GK3 (young guy)

Lichsteiner
Motta (or sell him and loan a back up RB)
Lugano
Alex
Barzagli
Chiellini
Ziegler
De Ceglie

Krasic
Pepe
Vidal
Pirlo
Marchisio
Pazienza
Nani

Del Piero
Vucinic
Quagliarella
Matri
Toni
This looks like a great squad. Selling Bonucci and buying Alex and Lugano is a great idea. But I think that Nani won't come he is a world class player that could play in almost any team in the world we aren't of interest for him right now. I think he'll stay in Manchester and frankly I don't see why would they sell him as he is one of their best players.

I think squad needs another director mid. Whether it's Gago, Montolivo, Poli, even Aqua lol. Sure if Nani and Krasic are flying, it's ok... but if they're out and Pirlo, it will be back to the dark days of Del Blacks with no rhythm.

And who knows for sure if Alex is a backline general? It might be another Bonucci. Safer to go with Lugano for now and look for an upgrade next season.

RE: Nani. Sir Alex needs us to knock out the Spanish teams for him. The CL balance has shifted and they can't beat Barca so give us a discount Fergie.

I don't think Nani is impossible. Difficult but not impossible. Nani was their 2nd choice (didn't start in the final) and IF ManU also got Sneijder, he would definately go. ManU is the richest club in Europe but they also have very high debt levels.....they wouldn't want to splash out 40m on Sneijder without netting something off. Key risk is Real Madrid who also seem to like Nani. But so far, we seem to be the club with the most interest. I also read somewhere that Nani is looking to join a team that could move its way up to the same level (probably BS).

Dream August mercato:
Cassano-Amauri swap
Nani ~€20m
Alex €8m
Lugano free (fener relegated)
Coates (if cheap €2.5-3mil)
Bonucci-Vargas swap + a couple mil euros (maybe)
Aquilani €6-7M

= €36.5M+
I hope we still have that amount of cash left.
If Marotta pulled that off I would have extreme respect for him. (It is already climbing a lot this mercato)

GK:
Buffon
Storari
Kirev

DEF:
Lichtsteiner
Coates
Lugano
Alex
Chiellini
Ziegler
De Ceglie

MID:
Krasic
Pepe
Vidal
Pirlo
Vargas
Aquilani
Marchisio
Pazienza
Nani

FWD:
Del Piero
Vucinic
Quagliarella
Matri
Toni
Cassano

Now that's what I call depth (maybe besides RB & RW).

Sounds great Interdestroyer.....only we don't need depth. We are only playing Serie A this season. We can live with a smaller squad. But hey, if it comes within budget, then its not all bad. If we make champions league this season, we can then focus on making 1 or 2 big signings only to lift the quality.

Overkill. I like Catennacio's proposal. We could improve it next year with Balotelli (loan with option), Giovinco, Sorensen, Melo, a good LB for cheap and have a nice competitive squad.

Squad:

GK
Buffon
Storari
GK3 (young guy)

Lichsteiner
Sorensen
Lugano
Alex
Barzagli
Chiellini
Ziegler
LB

Krasic
Pepe
Vidal
Pirlo
Marchisio
Pazienza
Nani
Melo

Balotelli
Vucinic
Quagliarella
Matri
Giovinco

Hmm, I really like Alex, I watch him a lot. My cousin is a Chelsea fan. My issue is, from what I hear about Lugano is that he is a leader of the defense. We need that more than we need another wall, Lugano is also far far cheaper. I don't think Chelsea will sell Alex anyone.

I can't believe people want Balotelli to come Juve, first of all I doubt he would ever want to come here after all the abuse and racism he recieves. Secondly, the ultras would burn down his house with him inside.

Forget about Melo he's on loan.

Giovinco is ridiculously overrated.

Sorensen needs to go on loan.

De Ceglie is good enough for a backup LB and Chiellini CAN play LB too.

ManU already bought a new LW with Young, they extended Gigg's and Valencia's contract and Nani wasn't a starter last season.
So if you also count the money they have spent on De Gea and hopefully, Sneijder, then I really do think Nani may leave.
And since there aren't many clubs that play with all out wingers, and it seems Conte will, I hope we will be getting him, it is a dream, might be unrealistic but who knows.

We still didn't sign the "big name signing" we are waiting for and we are promised.

Reasonable realistic August mercato.

Lugano (free hopefully)
Coates
Vargas or other LW
Aquilani or other CM of similar standard (Gago, Montolivo etc.)

Alex is a monster, but he has terry next him that guides him by a leash. We need someone like Terry and Rio.

How many times last season did we roll our eyes at how unorganized our backline was :( I'd go for Lugano if it's a choice between the two of them.

Players in bold are for season 2012/13. Giovinco as a 5th choice striker and a backup left winger would be good enough. Sorensen has to prove himself next year but in best case scenario could return next year. I think we'll get Melo back next year. If we get a chance to get Balotelli we need to take it because he is a world class talent. The bought LB would be first choice.
