but if we can get Cavani cheaper we could use the rest of the money for other positions that need to be filled.I jump on the Higuain wagon too. He would be my nr. 1 transfer. I don't see it happen but he is still my favourite. It depends on Real Madrid and their objective with him. Cavani would be hard to get since he plays for a rival. But if Lavezzi leaves and they can't talk Cavani into staying at Napoli (for reasons as: he seeks CL, bigger club etc.) then he would fit perfectly too! In any case, the transfer price would be huge and I hope Marotta levels up his negotiating skills so that we could end up getting him for a not too overpriced transfer - even so, I don't care. We need that top striker at any cost! Suarez is also a fantastic player. But common sense tells me we won't get both one of Cavani/Higuain etc. AND a top player like Suarez, unfortunately.
So we got 3 targets, Suarez, Cavani and Higuain. All in the same age bracket.
Higuain- a top goal scorer for the club side, with 22 goals in 35 games. Very lethal, especially when you consider his number of shots are just 60 shots. His strength is within the box. He isn't going to create a magic out of nothing. However, his stats in Europe isn't very good. Just 3 goals out of 12 appearance. Being second fiddle to Benzema , partly could be the reason as well, or everyone scores easily in La Liga. Take Forlan for example, top goal scorer in La Liga and where is he now with Inter? He would probably demand the highest wage among all 3.
Suarez - Liverpool's best players. 11 goals out of 31 appearance with 128 shots. But he has been playing in probably the worst Liverpool team in a decade. And with players like Downing suppose to provide the assist to him, he have everything on himself. He isn't really the top goal scorer that we might be looking for. However his work rate and mobility could be a factor. Wage demand could be slightly less than Higuain.
Cavani - According to most , he is Conte's choice. 23 goals out of 35 games is very impressive. Not as lethal as Higuain though, as he made 124 shots. But his stats in Europe is better than Higuain's, 5 goals in 8 games. He isn't just in the box player like Higuain. He can score from outside the box as well. Has fantastic work rate. He comes within the league and has the least risk among all 3 players. But some argue, he been playing well only after being the focal point in Napoli and and he isn't the same player he was when in Palermo. Well the same can be said of Higuain as well. Even Henry, when changed to a more central figure in Arsenal is extremely well. Most likely his wage demand isn't going to be as high as the rest, but surely his transfer fee will be the most expensive among all 3.
I think at the end of the day, when Marotta going to seal the deal, he will surely get the player with least risk for the millions he paying. We are not talking about thousand, but millions. And when you decide to invest that much, the risk factor will be the biggest consideration.

I wouldn't be too sure about that right now.
We would be loosing minimum 2 decisive players (Del Piero, Matri/Quag) and might loose another good one(Matri/Quag, especially if Borriello stays) + Krasic is gone and Elia is gone too.... We need a RWF, CF and depth. One WC attacker would just not cut it for our CL quarters/semis + Scudetto ambitions.
PP: Also I'd like to add that Suarez's game is the most complete one. He isn't on the level of Higuain/Cavani @ pure CF departament, but is still miles ahead of our current CFs. That's why I'd consider him one of the likeliest candidates. He solves both depth and quality questions for this team. But watching our game last season - I just can't see us missing on a CF as well. We just badly need one Tezeguet, especially against smaller clubs.

Suarez is the RWF/SS we need. Watching his game for Liverpool and the way he was deployed by Ajax before he would fit like a glove. We have our wingbacks to whip the ball in the area - we need wingers just like Suarez - a masked forward -one that can always finish the move.
Dreaming on - I remember Cavani being deployed as a RWF as well. He wasn't very good in it, but he didn't suck as most CF's do because he had the speed.

Vucinic - Cavani - Suarez
would be so fucking elusive as an attacking trident. A defender can never guess how they will deploy. The only one that lacks something is Vucinic with his finishing, but I am sure he will improve when he starts to feel like the weakest link in attack. Its a challenge he has never experienced in his career. Suarez/Vucinic can swap easily, Cavani/Suarez can swap and all three are more than reasonably fast... 
Cavani > Higuain >>> Dzeko.
Higuain definitely right up there with Cavani, but I somehow feel Cavani would be able to give us a bit more. Dzeko... if the others are impossible, would be a good target, but I wouldn't be overwhelmed. Still, it would mean quite the upgrade and to be honest, we'd be really lucky to end up with one big name.

We should take into account that Forlan was already 34 years old, when joined Inter, and additionally was overloaded by 2 summer periods full of games. (world cup and cops America). It's almost impossible for such an old player to manage to play in top level for so many years, after so many matches.
