My step-uncle used to play for a team in premier league in 2000s. This team that he played for had a whole team of homegrown players in the 90s and won the treble. However, in the 2000s when my step-uncle joined, many foreign players came in together with him. They failed to gel well. Back then, defenders had zero technical capabilities and would shudder at the thought of receiving a pass. My step-uncle came from a french football academy that emphasized technical skills, even though he was a goalkeeper. When he played for this English team, none of his defenders knew how to receive his passes and many times he ended up playing the role of outfield players.
anyway, the above story shows that homegrown is the way to go and I hope to see 11 Marchisios or Del Perios turn up
