I'm sorry but Can is nothing like an old school DM. He's almost a lolzillian in midfield. He is not solid defensively. He tries backheels every time he touches the ball. Dribbles unnecessarily all the time.

He is the exact opposite of an old school DM. As for a comparison with Strootman - they are the same pace but Strootman is much more disciplined. They have maybe the same long ball distribution but Can is much more "eclectic".

There's no telling whether Can will eventually come good with all his technique but that's what draws us to him.

Do ypu think can would make for good choice in 3 man midfield with matuidi - pjanic - can

I rather give Bentancur the chance than sign Strootman. Strootman isn't a big upgrade on what we already have so either buy a world class CM or bet on the Uruguayan.

He will improve upon Khedira's contribution in that configuration. But I think there are a lot of better CM targets than him for a B2B mid.

The problem with him is he brings no true reliable, standout quality that you can plan around. Pjanic brings passing. Matuidi brings tireless running. Can brings... tackling, once in a while. Clever backheel through balls.. once in a while. A screamer... once in a while.

Reminds me of like Brozovic or Guarin. They do something amazing but it takes 10 tries.

if we dont sign anyone else, hes a predicted starter, based on the fact he would be our only midfield addition in a summer Khedira leaves and he gets similar wages, thats the only issue. if someone else is tagging along, like Goretzka, SMS, Kovacic or dare i say it, Verratti, then hed be a great addition

in theory yes. but lets say Goretzka goes to Bayern early in the mercato, SMS has PSG, United and City fighting over him, which basically eliminates s out of the race, and Kovacic unexpectedly becomes available for some reason (new coach, new shiny toy coming in etc), you know Marotta will try to get Kovacic. because thats how we always operate, look for opportunities. im sure Allegri will find the right system to fit him in, like he always does

Well I think this is mainly what we are thinking. He does have talent. How often will you sign a talented 23 year old for free? Might as well just sign him quick and figure out the rest later.

Sign for free and the next day he's worth at least 20M. Its just free money for us.

Well, it makes sense. Having such a physical midfield allows you to have midgets in attack. Can + Matuidi would make up for Mandzukic and the latter won't play as a starter forever. Allegri loves Mandzukic and we all here do but he's got so much talent on the bench right now which he's reluctant to use because of lack of physicality. Can is better than Khedira in my books so I approve this transfer It would be perfect if we could land SMS here too.

People here dont like him because he isnt Verratti Kroos or Kovacic... Honestly I dont know whats not to like about a player at the level of Khedira, a player who is also young and is coming on a free transfer..
Can at our starting 11 isnt really in our dreams but honestly its not like a nightmare either...
Can as 4th choice CM is brilliant!

Maybe 2 years ago... SMS will not go for that sum anymore given the interest of PSG and the fact he is in his prime and keep lifting his ceiling...
SMS is probably not attainable unless we sell Dybala and sign him in the same way we sold Pogba and got Higuain...
Strootman is a great player who Id love us to get but right now Im tired of all the 8 (out of 10) grade players - I want us to sign a 9 and a 10 to become the best team in Europe next season

If things stay as they are and all the likely leavers will indeed leave we will need a LB RB Superstar winger (unless one of our wingers becomes one..), top class CM and a sub CF wouldnt hurt as well
The good thing is we will have around 200M for all of that before adding our own money into it
The bad thing is we usually dont go all the way for the best player and try for 8/10 kind of players as there is no real fight for them so their price isnt going to reach the figures PSG Real and Barca pay to get their men..
