Reports (CdS, Mediaset etc) say Roma is on the verge of Kessie so ditching Paredes is logical. Why we would be picking their rejects is what I don't understand. I don't see him as a starter anytime soon, he's promising like Lemina but deep down we all know neither are gonna be world beaters and we seem to have nothing but ''pretty good'' mids. If we get rid of Hernanes & Sturaro and he comes in as a replacement then I don't mind at all, but 25m is quite an investment.

Kessie doesn't seem like a Roma sort of player or signing at all.

We were linked with Paredes in the summer. Just because someone isn't fancied by a certain coach or can't break into a good midfield doesn't mean he is a bad player. I'm just a bit bewildered as to what our midfield targets actually are, we're being linked with everyone.

Roma's purchasing in the last few years has been awful.

lljalic, iturbe, falque, doumbia, Allison, vermalen, grenier, vainqueur, zukanovic, Gyomber.

Whilst they let go of young players such as Romagnoli, Politano, Mazzitelli and Pellegrini. (although they may have buy-back causes they still make a loss).

Paredes has clear talent. It's a similar scenario to me as Kovacic who people were unsure about when we were linked to him. If you always take a chance on players with talent, you will be good in the long run.

Some might flop because they're lazy or lack physicality but I will take them over players like Kessie every time.

Paredes set the record for most passes completed in a Europa League game. He had 175 passes in one game. He set the record for average passes completed per match. He has some clear skills. He can make pass after pass in between the lines, on the ground, to the strikers feet. He can hit one time passes over the midfield. He can resist the press with ball control or one touch passing. He can hit a dead ball.

If I had to dream about what he could become I guess it would be someone like Kroos.

The problem is we don't necessarily need a regista and there are questions about if that position is even that important nowadays. Paredes might always be a player who needs a specific set up to be really useful but in my opinion, he is quite talented.

If it's a "market opportunity" then I wouldn't hesitate. If it's something like 20M and then we sell Lemina for 20M, I would do that.

If you watched him and say so i have no reason to not believe you. The few times i saw him i wasnt impressed really but I haven't seen enough to claim how good he is

Yes, it's tough to evaluate players like Paredes because they require competent teammates to show their ability.

You can take Kessie, and put him on any field. His performance is not affected by teammates. His main qualities are running, work rate, tackling and strength. So you can exhibit these qualities even on a terrible team, maybe even moreso on a terrible team.

Now you take Paredes who is playing at Empoli. When he aims a pass, he is aiming at fucking Massimo Maccarone. Because Maccarone can't even run, the pass radius has to be even smaller for Paredes. For example, Kroos can smash a ball anywhere near Bale and people will call it a perfect pass but really Bale just gets to every ball.

So it's hard to evaluate what the true talent of the players is in difficult circumstances. That's why when I see the technique Paredes has, in terms of actual fundamentals of striking a ball, how he sees openings before he gets the ball, his balance on the ball and things like that, I have to believe in him.

This is just my opinion of course. I could be wrong. Maybe in a team like ours it turns out that he will miss 4 out of 10 key passes. Maybe he gets lazy. Maybe he doesn't know how to read the game defensively or whatever.
