i'd love to have sergej and on the long run he'd be an upgrade over rabiot. still, sergej wouldn't be a direct replacement. providing he arrives (and i still doubt it, lotito is still a bitch to deal with, and he's also expensive), he'd play on the right, so it leaves us with having to rely on pogba as our only left footed ("both footed" if it makes sense) player for the left cm position even rovella is right footed. and pogba is obviously unreliable. so we'd probably need a leftie cm anyway, and i have no idea who that would/should be

why not use a right-footed lcm? I think Fagioli will do fine on this position.

For the midfield it’s less of a concern. For backs it’s a absolute must, for CB’s preferable and for wingers it all depends on the characteristics of the players.

The best midfields we’ve seen in recent times (Kroos, Casemiro, Modric), Barca’s midfield during last decade or even MPV all were midfields containing right footed players.
