Regista is not a position, it is a role. Locatelli the entire time for Sassuolo played the deeper playmaker role but was also allowed to go more forward, just like Pjanić did with Khedira. He can have that role with a more physical partner, but with Jorginho he would be strictly a btb midfielder which he isn't because Jorginho cannot do literally anything else.

Nobody is suggesting Locatelli should be glued to the halfway line and never go forward but his best role is to be the main guy in midfield and dictate everything while occasionally going forward to assist in attack.

Regista is not a position, it is a role. Locatelli the entire time for Sassuolo played the deeper playmaker role but was also allowed to go more forward, just like Pjanić did with Khedira. The position and role he played in for 2-3 years that allowed him to blossom and get to Juve level is not his best, but the one he played in Euros for a few games is? He had a standout performance vs Switzerland in Euros, rest of it was just ok, nothing special. 1 game, that is it. Sorry if I'm not minding such a small sample size.

He has 2 goals and 2 assists this season, he had 4 and 3 all of last year with Sassuolo and 0 goals and 4 assists the year before that.

He is perfect for the role he has now where he can change between staying deeper and going more forward. And I agree he has had physically strong partners so far, that is why I don't want a weak player like Jorginho knocking that entire balance out of wack. He just needs a strong, but better partner than he had so far, not someone that will do his job worse than him.

Injury prone, 30+ year old player on massive wages in the worst form of his life. I wouldn't touch that with a long stick. We could get Insigne for free next season.

We lack a Pogba, Iniesta, Modrić etc., a midfielder closer to goal in a 3 man midfield. Locatelli is not that and never has been. He is perfect for this DLP role with two mids.

We do lack that but first and for all we need someone to actually make this team play some football instead of these horror shows. Not even a Pogba will fix the roots of the problem for us. No wrong intent but it looks insane to me to think that. A Modric type in a tandem could work, yes and that's a totally different type of player.
