Shaqiri could turn out good. Watching him at the world cup showed that. Probably not world class, but good. He'd also give us a little more versatility, while also having the ability to score goals, and a bit of creativity.

We spent the same on Pereyra. Pereyra. Or at least we're planning on it. Why not decide to not take up the option to buy Pereyra and bring Shaqiri instead. Vast improvement, even if just as depth also, and the same price. No brainer to me.
Meh. I'm not convinced. We used to buy Zlatan. Or Buffon. Or Nedved. We're Juventus. Why are we not doing this anymore?

Exactly.

I feel like many are pissed because Inter got him. But had we signed him those same people would rage.

I never liked him that much and I think he's overhyped. So I don't really missing out on him, that's for sure. What saddens me though is how we spend a lot on unnecessary signings but later complain how we don't have enough money.
:agree:

People are made because Inter was improved by two average signings and somehow we, still much stronger than Inter, haven't reinforced yet.

Shaq wouldn't have been the answer to us and those people screaming about adding players that are expensive but add nothing too the team wouldn't admit that.

You would rather have Pereyra than Shaqiri for depth in the AM, Winger department?
We don't use a formation with wingers.

The thing is that Pereyra can easily warm our bench while Shaqiri certainly wouldn't want such role here. Also, Pereyra is capable of playing MC/box to box.

I did expect more from Pereyra, though. I wanna see how he does till the end of the season before judging him.

Buying Shaqiri was certainly not a must. Would I wanna be stuck with him as a starter for 3-4 years? Not really. I don't think he's good enough. He went away from Munich in order to play, so he wouldn't come to sit on our bench that's for sure.

I think Pereyra will provide useful. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for :xfinger:

Pereyra won't do well so long as he's asked to play trequartista.

Play him deeper or play him wider, where there is more space, and he'll be a good player.

IIRC he actually said AMC is where he plays best at. But he also said he can cover midfield easily.

But yes, I'd play him deeper that's for sure. We need a brain behind strikers and that's not him.

Morata would benefit of playing regularly. Llorente got his chance and can't put the ball in the net like last year. Is it form, new formation? Well, we can't wait and see. Throw the young wolves on the pitch and move forward. Especially if Zaza come back, we can't wait for Nando.
he's playing further away from tevez for one leaving him isolated, secondly our wide players can barely cross the ball into the area for him to thrive off. Zaza aint coming back unless marotta is stupid enough to pay the 15-18 mill release clause

Exactly? You just said we don't use a winger formation. SO clearly we aren't going to play him wider. We have 4 much better midfielders, so clearly he isn't going to play as a B2B.

If we picked up Shaqiri, at least he has shown he can be a pretty good player as an AM for his national team.

What exactly has Pereyra shown? That he can be a half-decent winger? We don't use wing based formations.

He will pay 15m.
Then he is a very stupid person, yet another 15 mill wasted upon a bench player... and when the summer arrives we'll hear the lines of "we cannot compete with the european elites because they have more money than us" yes that's because they don't spend 15+ mill on bench players all the sodding time!

Who are you going to bump to make space for Pereyra deeper? Our midfield is too strong to have him there. That's my whole point. And if we're talking about playing him wider, as Hustini said, we don't use winger formations. And he sucks as a wingback. Pointless signing. At least Shaqiri can play as an AM, and pretty well, not great, but he isn't awful in that position like Pereyra.
