I'm taking a Geology class this semester and the instructor just said today that Holland's land area almost doubled from the Delta river projects (you know, where the rivers are controled to increase deposition). in other words, a lot of your land didn't exist years ago??

That's true. We drained it from the ocean by pumping the water out. Here's a map that shows the part of our country that's situated BELOW sea-level (it includes Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague):

Thanks Erik....that's pretty kewl how most cities are like that.
i've seen many pics of Holland and they are all beautiful. it doesn't seem like it's based on "new ground."
i live in New Orleans and it's also below sea level (but it formed naturally long ago) and it's a damn dirty swap here!

We have a couple of swamps here as well but we managed to dry most of them. Don't ask me exactly how they did that though ... :undecide: I assume they just kept pumping
I always thought New Orleans was beautiful as well! Dunno why ...
:dazed: 23deg is my year round night time low!!!! I can't imagine your summer temperature is around the lowest i've got!
Today i went rollerblading and the weather was hot.... abt 32deg and humidity is totally saturated....... damn! It makes you feel so damn sticky!!! Eeeeww
FYI.... i don't have 4 seasons and general temperature range is like 24-33deg ............ some of you pls..........gimme your snow if you've got too much.......besides......... i've only seen snow once in my life  ...not here of coure....... so i'd be quite fasinated with the fluffy white stuff :cheesy:

it's beautiful if you're a fly or a musqito (sp?).
the only Beautiful things are the old plantation houses. everything else is dirty (maybe it's because i'm comparing it with Riyadh where i grew up which is pretty clean)

Riyadh? Saudi-Arabia, right? I've seen some pictures I think. Is it the city with the really cool mix of old and new architecture? That one looked impressive!

20 Meters? That's not fog! The sea mists we have here can limit visibility to two meters It's a fine excuse to skip classes though
Stupid North-Sea sends in everything bad: hail, rain, wind, fog but never a good deal of sunshine this time of year :groan:

It's nice for several things, and you need snow during christmas anyway. I agree that we don't need for so long though.
Several things? Snowballs is one, though that need isn't with me anymore. What else you got?

Isn't it warmer, I would say it 25-30 over here. I think no other place has a better temperature in the summer than Norway, it's perfect.
Oh yeah, 25 is completely sufficient. It's no Mediterranean sea/bathing environment but it's fine for most purposes. 30 sounds a little high for average summer temperature in Trondheim though.

Brrrrrrr........ When I got up this morning, I had to realize that it was snowing and it is still snowing! I'm usually happy with the first snow, but not in October! :groan: :fero:
