Windows Media Player question (1 Viewer)

Guys... yesterday I've cleaned up my computer and defragmented by drive. As a result, the W Media P no longer playes internet radio, giving me an error message C00D10B5

"Windows Media Player cannot play any items in this playlist. For additional information, right-click an item that cannot be played, and then click Error Details."

Can anybody advise on what to do?

    That's all it said... also it suggested I go to the forums on microsoft.com- but didn't find anything.

    Is it up to date to the latest version? If not, upgrade. windowsupdate.microsoft.com and follow the instructions. Otherwise you could try and uninstall it (Control Panel > Add/remove programs) and then reinstall from windowsupdate.

    (Not that I recommend updating for that matter, WMP sucks.. )

    IMO

    I like to use Power DVD than WMP. but WMP can help me in any file that Power DVD can't play. :D

    For music Winamp is OK :D

    Just on the codec topic, only install codecs if you are having problems. Some codecs interefere with one another. Even when installing Nimo there are certain codecs that you cannot install with others. If you're having a problem viewing a video file, find out what codec it needs and download that codec by itself. GSpot is a good AVI codec viewer.


    BTW, i just upgraded to XP SP2, not bad Microsoft...

    Good addendum, Persian! I was assuming you were starting from scratch. If you are able to play movies, don't install more codecs. And if the ones you have don't work, remove them before you install new ones.

    I am not a big fan of watching movies on a pc (unless it's porn). The thing finds codecs and downloads them automatically.

    But radio is important.

    I've researched it and it's really not that big of a deal. Around 80% of the problems lead down to the new firewall. The new firewall blocks out many programs access to the network (eg. multiplayer games, programs that require connection to interenet for updates etc). You can simply add these programs to your firewall exclusions list or open their ports manually. Better yet, you could even turn off the Windows firewall (it's not very popular among techies anyway).
