well this whole "english club" hype has annoyed me again because they're showing stuttgart-chelsea instead of depor-Juve

due to my frustrations I asked my real footie fans and everyone said they prefer to see depor-juve as obviously it is a bigger match

Fortunately I got to see the best match on yesterday (Bayern-Real), but I doubt the British and Irish channels I have will show Depor-Juve today. I couldn't watch it anyway , but I could have taped it. I'll have to make do with some highlights, if I'm lucky.

I have always known Juve as a footballing powerhouse yet 95% of fans in Kenya support a team in EPL. Why? Simple, it is obnoxiously hard to view a Serie A match. EPL is on almost every free channel. Being an english speaking nation does not help either when all the italian league games on RAI are in Italian. You also have to admit that until recently we used to get crappy screening of Serie A on RAI but atleast this has improved. While the EPL has fantastic coverage. The atmosphere in a Serie A match & EPL match also contributes. To the bandwagoners the screaming fans in an EPL match gets their adrenalin pumping while the more discerned fan watches the game. As for the spanish league madrid gets the lions share of the media houses because of their summer signing Figo, Zidane, Beckham .... got the drift.
Last but not least every other league has gained ground on Serie A.

I'm in exactly the same situation Ali  IMO half of the reason for the lack of coverage of other leagues is that people naturally idenftify with countries that speak the same language... maybe it's also got something to do with Australia's British heritage :)

be cause we dont market as much as REal or ManU :)

-We do have huge fan base that can compete with these teams

-We have all the silverware needed to be with these teams

-When you think of Italian football It's AC, Juve, Inter...... even non-football fans know us :)

-When other teams play against us....... they do take caution..... alot of it

-We do have a very strong team...

-We are a rich club....... Only Man U is richer than us.

So how can we not be a super power? Only Media wise..... Like they say, lack of coverage and also marketing and media

Actually that's a tough call to make. Certainly not in Australia

Juventus was the first Italian team I heard of when I was about 10 or 11.

And 1 million years later I became a fan. In Hong Kong. Amazing.

At least in my city Juventus' "fame" is slowing catching up with other EPL superpowers.

Actually RAI, as a public television, gives a far better coverage than its British equivalent, the BBC, which has scrapped that otherwise excellent programme called Match of the Day.

Every Sunday night at 6 : 10 PM there is a show called Novantesimo Minuto on RAIUNO (which has been aired ever since television was introduced in Italy), where they show extensive summaries of all the games of the footballing day. They would also show all the goals again in a brief sports show just after the news, at 8 : 30 PM CET.

Also, RAIDUE airs the Domenica Sportiva every Sunday night at 10 : 30 PM CET, which is an almost 3 hours long broadcast focusing almost entirely on football. Pundits (Zibi Boniek being one of them) will thoroughly discuss the events of the day with serie A guest stars.

Finally, RAI has bought the rights of the Coppa Italia and Uefa Cup games, as well as those of the National Team games, which always provides the "non pay per viewers" with some midweek action. Not bad, if you consider the firece competition posed to her by the likes of Stream, Tele + and Berlusconi's channels.

The funniest thing I heard ever: Someone was telling me Italian football sucks and that "Look at EPL, aside from Chelsea, MU, Arsenal, Liverpool, they have teams like Spurs, Sunderland, Fulham, etc... All big teams"

With all due respect, I get more entertained with the likes of Parma, Chievo, Lazio etc ...

Before I go on let me put something striaght. RAI's programmes are good but the actual live screenings of matches were crappy until this year. The quality has improved so much so it is now more pleasurable to watch Serie A.

No doubt there. I pay US$ 63 monthly to get DSTV which includes RAI as part of the package to get Serie A. In essence I pay all that money for a free channel! Oops add CL to the bill on ESPN. I would gladly pay higher to get pay per view Serie A.

I get RAI International which does not show Novantesimo Minuto so no comments there.

I get DS which is pretty good except for my horrid italian which am working on.

Yes, the national team games is always a pleasure unless Trap employs some of his amazing negative tactics. UEFA Cup would be a bonus but I don't think we'll get it RAI International. As for the Italian Cup you won't believe this but they actually advertised the broadcasts but never screened :fero: Another rant regarding Serie A is that on RAI International all the big Sunday night games are on delayed telecast! Why??? Sometimes as late 1:00am. No Saturday Serie A matches for that matter so we remain with the Sunday afternoon match on DS.

I agree with Spurs and Fulham being big teams, but i won't have confidence in Sunderland to be a European superpower until they can prove their worth by battling regulation in DIVISION ONE

 That's one of the funniest damn things I've ever heard

:D McCarthy has them in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, and they're looking good for the playoffs. They could be in the Premiership and in Europe next year!!
