Why Evra snubbed Inter…
Saturday 23 July, 2005
Patrice Evra claims his desire to win a trophy with Monaco prevented him from joining Inter this summer.

The France left-back said he is 100 per cent committed to Monaco’s campaign after snubbing a move to the San Siro.

"Inter really wanted me," the 24-year-old said. "Real Madrid were also in the picture in case Roberto Carlos left, plus I had concrete contacts with Liverpool and one French club.

"But I don’t feel as though I’ve finished my adventure with Monaco. I want to win a trophy with the club, especially now that we have such a competitive team."

Evra continued: "It’s true that my agent had some very serious contacts with Inter.

"That was a solution which pleased me. But from the moment that Monaco made it clear they absolutely wanted to keep me, I couldn’t act in any way I liked.

"I couldn’t leave the club like that, even if the offer from Inter was very seductive, both from a sporting and financial point of view.

"Staying at Monaco is not a disappointment for me. I’m very attached to this club."

Evra, who moved to the Stade Louis II from Nice in 2002, has a close relationship with Coach Didier Deschamps, and he added: "It’s true, there’s real trust between the two of us.

"But I know that things change quickly in football. Monaco could go and sign a new left-back in the next few days, or I could go through a bad patch during the season.

"I know I have got the Coach’s confidence, but I won’t be relying on that."

This shows inter's frailties a well known on the continant. Im gald to see evra sticking loyal to monaco.

Imo monaco and deschamps can have a very very interesting team next year.

A left flank of kapo and evra is one of the best in the league, with meriem potnentially a contender for Juninho and pedretti for best playmaker.

Good work Patrice
