without getting all philosophical- i like football as a sport. I enjoy playing it and that is what introduced me too football as a spectator sport.

people look for a sense of belonging and i think football is a way for some of them to belong to something- to a team they support for example.

for example me being a bianconero.

The players are not hidden under shoulder caps and helmets like the players in the NFL and NHL. So you know where your favourite player is, players like David Beckham might not have been as famous if he had been playing hockey.
If he was married with Posh Spice he would be. I saw this "documentary" on Sky the other day and it was actually she that made him famous, dragging him to all the non-football events where he meet all the non-football people and started to like and appear in this non-football world. If he was not her husband he would probably just be a cute football player.

Did I ever say that I didn't care?

However, I care a lot about Juventus. They mean a lot to me and I wouldn't be the same person without them. I have been a juve fan ever since the season 92 (Milan's fantastic season), that season I only missed one game. I think I watched all the WC 94 games, it was perhaps my best summer. Not only because I had the most beautiful girlfriend but perhaps mostly because of Swedens fantstic third place. But a couple of years later I didn't care about football at all. Believe it or not but I don't think I watched one of the euro 96 matches. I wasn't even aware of that Juve won the champions league.
98 something happened I don't know why but suddenly I became fanatic about football it started sometime before the world cup and rose during it. I followed Juventus in the league table but I very very rarely watched the games, perhaps because I didn't have the channels at home.
During the euro 2000 my football interest was perhaps at its peak. I more or less scheduled my days for when the games were played. The best part of this cup was of course not the results but the fact that I found a new favourite player...
I used to like Gianluca Vialli, but during the world cup I found a new Gianluca, Gianluca Zambrotta. I liked him during his season in Juventus but it was during the euro 2000 that he became my absolute favourite and has been so ever since. The strange thing is that the moment he became my favourite was during the game against Holland...
The transfer season 2001 was one of the best times in my life, I don't know how but somehow Moggi happened to buy three of my absolute favourite players.
I don't think I am the most fanatic fan in these forums but I think I spend so much time with Juve in my mind that it can't be healthy. My friends and my girlfriend can't understand why I find it so fun to look at it.

But in my mind football is a lot more than those 90 minutes.

It is the nerve the few minutes, hours even days before an important game.
Also as someone mentioned, it is the feeling that you belong to something. It is also a kind of hobby. A friend of mine who is a hiphopper said something pretty smart "If you live a life based on only on social contacts, in the end you will not be happy"
For some it could destroy their social life, but for me it isn't only negative. I would say that it is mostly positive, if me and my friends haven't got much to talk about there is always football there.
It is also the glamour of the players, I think all of us dream of becoming a footballstar.

I hope that answer satisfied you Lilianna. You got almost all my footballfan history as well.

It is kind of strange, I have visited these forums from time to time the latest 1,5 years but it was first last week that I noticed you and you have more than 1000 posts, where have you been hiding or are you very new?

Haha didn't that comment get blown out of the sky by the subsequent speech :D:D:D

This is a question i'm asked so often, especially since the action is happening so damn far away (i'm in Australia). My parents always say to me "why do you wake up to watch it at 4:30 in the morning? What's the point of watching it live? Why do you watch it at all? You don't get anything if they win. If they lose, you feel bad, and if they win, you just have to be tense about the next game."

The truth is, I don't have any answers to any of these questions. I don't know why I started liking Juventus, especially in a country where the only league shown is the EPL.

I guess it's just the raw emotion of the game, the involuntary thumping of my heart whenever my team plays, the un-muteable shouts that come from deep within whenever they score and the inevitable swear-word coming out of my mouth whenever we concede.

I have no idea what makes the game or my team so damn attractive. If anyone ever asks me, I sometimes like to say "Why don't you ask one of the other several billion football fans out there?"
