No, because it was a pointless thread, full of random references to BBQs and shrimp.

Someone asked if basic mods should be allowed close threads, and whether we discussed closing threads.

Firstly, we can close them because we have to deal with spammers, people who insist on linking to porn sites (yes, I'm looking at you Don), and morons who start offensive or duplicate threads.

Secondly, we discuss closing any thread that is already well-established befre we spot it or decide it needs closing.

Finally, on splitting threads (mentioned much earlier), I was responsible for much of that after becoming a mod initially, and have since been talked out of using the function. now, if you people go off-topic, we take the lazy path, and rename or close the thread. That's policy, at any rate.

I've been on many forums, and suprisingly (or not ;)) enough, this kind of discussion pops up every now an again :D and sometimes leads to drastic changes that are not always for the better....

For the PPL that say that this is Juve forum and it should be Juve talk only forum, i have to say that you are wrong. It certanly did start as such and this is what is underlying connection between all (or almost all:D) PPL here. Second implied connection is football. So enough basis to have events that will be in everyone's field of interest, enough to have new Juve/football/players & so on discussions going on at all times.

But if it did start as a Juve forum, it certanly (as ANY other sucessfull forum) it did overgrow it's initial purpose and it plays a social life part and part of daily routine for many. Xtratime started as Serie A football forum in 1999. Look at it now. If diehards originators of the XT said "we gonna keep this as our Serie A forum only" it would have never become what it is now the bigest football fans forum on the net (with exception of BS, but BS is exactly that......BS:D).

No member can separate their persona from themselves as football fan. Everyone has more to themselves that football only and forums are perfect places for PPL to meet and talk. You can not punish PPL for wanting more of info on other members and wanting to share more than their football knowledge/Juve knowledge. Martin surely knew this and hence hangout. ;)

I just want to say that there are many other things that can be done but closing the hangout or closing all the threads that are "not on the topic" before that kind of decission is taken.
