One's roots? Lebanese, Syrian, Jordanian, and Palistinean people are not arabs. Arabs invaded us and took our land to their empire, just like the Romans, the Persians, and the British/French. It's sad, we lost our culture, our history, our original languages, and everything, we lost our identity, because of the evil and corrupt arab emperors.

We've only gained Islam out of all that.
could u explain that a bit? wat arabs invaded ur land ?ur meaning after islam came

Personally, I draw my roots back to Ethiopia with the 5.8 million-year-old humanoids discovered there. Those are my ancestors. That is my culture. The rest of the people there are invaders. I lay claim to the land of Ethiopia as my homeland and will not stop the bloodshed until it is returned to its rightful owners.

I will answer just one question -

Christians and Muslims all worship the same Allah.

I won't elaborate on other stuff because this thread will degenerate into something very ugly......close it please.

Ive asked Jack this question quite a while back the some of Lebanese ppl here refuse to be labelled "arab" & i found it quite strange to deny ones roots.

Could u explain this whole issue to me if at all possible?

What ? Don't blame them for it but it's not only the "Christian" Lebanese who say that but also the Muslims and also other religions who are living there. Please, don't get mixed up with people and religion, it's the worst outcome and we've seen it in their history and in their own motherland. I'm not saying that they are as I have not researched into it but here's a small article.

Lebanon was the homeland of the Phoenicians, a seagoing people that spread across the Mediterranean before the rise of Alexander the Great. Carthage, which threatened Rome, was a Phoenician colony.

@ Byrone and Eddy:

This is an issue of identity...books have been written about this subject, try On Identity by Amin Maalouf, a Lebanese/French.

Regarding the Arab identity, some may feel that Arab is synonymous with Islam. So non-Muslims feel threatened by the notion of Arabism and classifying themselves as Arabs.

In addition to this some people associate Arab culture as desert-bedouin culture. Seeing as Lebanon is probably the only M.E. country not to have a desert, or bedouin culture...this may be another reason why our history and cultural aspects may be different than the rest of the Arab world.

On the other hand, Lebanon has contributed tremendously to Arabic heritage and folklore in the form of Khalil Gibran, one of the greatest writers in the ARABIC language. Fairouz, the famous singer, also deserves a worthy mention for her traditional songs and plays. My personal favorite "Al Qudsu lana" - "Jerusalem is ours" - and ours could mean "Arabs" in this sense. (mind you, both of them are Christian)

There are some extreme cases where some Lebanese factions actually classify our accent or dialect as a separate language. That is an issue of heated debate.

Personally, on a cultural and linguistic level, I am proud of our Arabic speaking heritage...but I guess it stops right there. I despise the acts of modern Arab politicians and leaders...the so-called "Symbols of the Arab Nation"...Arabism died with Gamal Abdel Nasser, God rest his soul.

And that is why I wrote that little "I don't blame them" remark.

i will give this a bash(i may not be correct here so if i am then sorry)

the quran and the bible are very similar in essence, many of the teaching s are similar and are as open to debate in their interpretation.
in the bible however jesus christ is the son of god and in the quran he is viewed simply as a prophet. i think is one of teh major differences in opinion between the two

great post rhizoid

but i have question for the christians in here....the bible as it is known is written by the 12 followers of Jesus right ? Based on his teachings?
So it is not actually a book based on the teachings from god ? Cuz in the quran it says that the christians should have a book based on the teachings of god not jesus.

Really it does? where?

The problem with the bible that it has been translated so much during the centuries that lots of original meaning has become very obsecure. Also, there has been some alterations ***don't kill me Snoop:D***. However, it is still considered a book from God, Muslims do not take it as a source of legistlation, but could be a source for history. Of course all this IMO;)

Well, the man perhaps was an honest man, but he didn't achieve anything except defeats and more defeats for the Arab people...

So, please stop praising him as if he was a prophet...

He was useless just like the current ones...

Jesus was spreading the word of God through parables.
The Bible was written by hagiographers. These people where supposedly inspired by the Holy Spirit to write God's message in the Bible.
Also for Christians Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit are one.
