Completely true, mate. Everything you said stands.

I know he is the King of Goals, Captain, that he loves the Club and that Supporters and Members of this Forum love him the most, BUT every single person in this world knows that he is definitely not or will ever be on a Pele, Maradona or Platini level.

Therefore, I voted for Platini who is trully the best no. 10 for Juventus ever on the cryteria of football skills.
In terms of talent Del Piero is inferior to no one!!

Anyway DP #10 !!! We should block that jersey after him:)[/B]
I disagree. I myself am a huge DP fan but I don't see any point in retiring the number 10.

I have seen many games and many players over many seasons, but I struggle to remember a season when Alex was our best player: please enlighten me: perhaps this is the season you might say and you might there have a point to make.
1997-98 for instance.

and guess what I prefer a player like DP who may not be unstoppable sometimes, but he is damn constant when it comes to good, effective performances. Yeah, I better see DP constantly kick ass for 13 years, than Platini rule the world for 5.

But yeah, you might not agree with me :) (and other 82% of the forum)

Which seasons are you meaning? For instance 2006: is this one or the last. If it is the last then I would say Buffon and Canna were the better players. The rest I need to know which season before replying.
As for Maradona, well much as I admired him as a player I do not take his utterances to seriously. All but the most ardent DP fans would acknowledge Zizou as the better player, and for sure when they shared a field ZZ outshone DP.
i think in termns of age, when del piero was about 21-23 he was better than zidane at his age, but after the injury, zizou was def better and overall in terms of careers he is superior, but then again he is superior to pretty mcuh all players

No, not every single person in this world knows that.

And for your Information, skills isn't everything in football, specially for the ones that do wear number 10 Jersey. Loyality, Leadership, giving your everything to your club is also part of wearing number 10.

Unfortunately, some of you don't really know what Alex has passed through... Just like couple of days ago on Al-Jazeera they showed some report about Del Piero's difficult moment through his entire career, I doubt any professional would have passed what Del Piero managed to pass.

-At such a young age, they put all the pressure on him and compared him to the likes of Baggio. Something not anyplayer can handle. (And he did prove everyone that he was much more giving player than Baggio in Juve).

-His InjurieS....(People kept on talking that he'll never be able to re-put his feet again on the field, yet he screwed them up and showed them the way you play football)

-Doping case...(Need I talk about it)???

-His problem with the likes of Crapello, Inzaghi's selfishness, Trap( not to mention that without him and thanks to his goals, Italy wouldn't have made it to Portugal 02)

Need I mention more things??? I don't think so.

So, reading back like I said, number 10 isn't only about skills, not that there are many player superior to Ale when It comes to Skills, Infact I can only count on my one hand the players that are little bit better than Dp in-terms of skills.

At-last but not least, I'd prefer and I'm sure lot of coaches would prefer, having someone who's loyal and welling to give their everything for their Clubs, through good and bad rather than just have a speedy player who can dribble past 3, 4 players make some pony show and then leave for cash.

No wonder why our Captain has always been chanted by us(fans)...through good and bad.

Maybe Baggio and Zidane were better than Alex in cryteria of skills, but of course that the skills are not only cryteria to see who is better player. What is with loyalty, leadership, goals, play for club with your heart. . These things Del Piero has but I don't think that Baggio and Zidane have them too. Baggio played for six clubs before and after he played for Juve. Zidane played more years for Real Madrid than he played for Juve. And what with Del Piero. He played for his whole career for Juve, he is the best striker in all times, he is loyal, he is true leader and captain, he plays for Juve with heart, he has good skills, he is a good man overall. And someone can compare him with Baggio and Zidane??

BTW Boniperti shouldn't even be on that list, cause most of the time he was wearin number 9, and Sivori had number 10.

Check this out and look which number they gave to Giampiero:

Zizou was voted 3rd in the World player of the year and European player of the year in 1997.
In 1998 he was both World and European player of the year.

I was in the stadium for most of the games that season, and I can tell you that Zizou was untouchable and magnificent.

I do not agree with all 82% of you.

Try another season.

I don't think you can trust FIFA awards to who is the better player one season. Of course the winner will be a magnificent player with some sort of achievement in the year the award is given but I disagree that it is always the best player that season who wins.

For instance this year. Buffon has been the best player in year 2006 in my opinion. But he won't get the award because he is a goalkeeper. They rarely give defenders or goalkeepers the award.

that was only becuase he had a great world cup, we're talking about juve here, and in that season, as much as zidane in every other season in football was better, in that year for juve it was close but i believe like the 82% that ale was better.......ale got 32 goals (10 in the champions league [he broke the previous record] which for a player who is not a target forward is an astonishing achievement) he was the one who scored the goal that fucked inter, and was a key if not THE key player in getting us to the champions league final

when someone says all people who believe del piero was the best 10 are wrong and that he is only their favourite number 10 there really isn't much you can do

Even a donkey has the right to have a hat, as they say.

Word. How about this one Banana.

Zidane was not a number ten, but he was the better player. Yet for the number ten spot both Baggio and more especially Platini were better.

I don't care what a few people here say (I do take note of argument), I know what I believe to be true, and from my experience people outside this fish-bowl also see it that way too.
