as a player he was a lot better than lippi
I can't tell who was a better player, I haven't seen any of them play. I saw however Capello score a very nice goal for Juve. But Angela just wanted to put Capello in the worst player poll without even seeing him play, and that I'm sure of.

I've only seen him play once - Ajax - Juventus on ESPN classic. Both crapello & Bettiga played in that game. Neither impressed me the way Roby Baggio or DP did, I'm afraid. Maybe those shorts they wore impeded their performance. Boy, were they short - & tight fitting!:D

So you judged him from one game?

It was all I had to judge him on - maybe he had a "bad day", but I doubt his contribution/loyalty to Juventus is anywhere near DP's, so you were quite right to leave him out.

There is a rule about how many players at least should a team can continue to play, isn't it? :disagree:

Del Piero! But then I have only been a Juve fan for eight years so he is the only 10 I have seen play in the Juve jersey. :p He was the whole reason I became a Juve fan however. There was something magical about this one little guy on the Italian National team that year. It was the very first time I had seen him play ever. He had spirit, I give him that.

Just as a side note, I spoke to a couple of Real Madrid fans here last night and they seem to be loving Crapello.

my dad saw all of them play and he thinks you can't compare them because of the time difference. he says all of them are great players but in terms of skills he thinks boniperti and platini are better than del piero.
however he thinks del piero is just fantastic--the impact he has on juventus.
Your Dad is right, and I believe he should add, at least (the others being debatable) Baggio to the list of more skillful, creative players, But at the end of the day this is a vote on the "best" number 10, and "best" means lots of different thing to lots of different people. I think here, looking at the voting pattern, most have taken it to mean their favourite number 10.

But on ability DP is nearer the bottom of the list.

well del piero had so much potential to be one of the greatest players in the world but he didn't live up to it......at 21-22 he was fantastic but after the injury he was slow. however in terms of skills i still rate him very highly he just isnt consistent. and i did vote for him---to me he is overall greater than platini or baggio.

A rational explanation of why you voted for him, and a valid one too.

There is little wrong in voting for the player you see as having made the greatest contribution to Juventus history. One could also debate that point though and I would.
We all have our favourites and DP isn't one of mine.
I find it difficult to remember a time when he was in the team and I thought he was the best player in the team, and for me that means he can not be our best ever 10.

yes you are right and you are entitled to your opinion. however the criteria for the best 10 ever is flexible and to say that the people who voted for del piero are only idolizing him is an insult. he may not have as much flair as platini or baggio or win the ballon d'Or but he is brilliant and his character and love for the club is powerful.....i believe a lot of people here who voted for him see that in him.

My choice was easy. Alessandro Del Piero has been the heart and soul of Juventus ever since he came to the club. 199 goals speak it's own language. His loyalty and love for this club brings you tears of happiness. :heart2:
He has won everything there is to win with Juventus and Italy's NT. Scudetto, CL, EC and WC... Everything!

I love the elegant way Del Piero plays football. It's always fun to watch him play. Whether it's a free kick, a cross, a dribble, a pass, a backheel pass or a wonderful shot!!

I haven't had the fortune of watching Platini, Boniperti or Sivori play. I'm sure they were all marvellous players. But, in the end Del Piero will always be remembered as the symbol of FC Juventus Torino, the hero. And in terms of talent no one in this world is better than Ale.

Next Saturday he will score his 200th goal in the black and white jersey and we will all be in heaven. :pint:

:star: Forza Ale per sempre! :star:

I was the same with Roberto Baggio. He attracted me to Italian football & Juventus. Then Alex came along & they at one point, they played together for Juve. I became equally attached to Alex & although Il Codino Divino left, my support remained firmly with Juve & Alex.
The others in this poll are just names to me, & because football has changed over the years, I tend to judge the past stars with the football I am familiar with. This, as Natalia's father said, is probably unfair, but most people probably make judgements in this way, about various things & not just football.

The Italian national side has always been my team as far back as I could remember. In those days however I watched nothing but World Cup football. I had no clue about CL and Serie A and whatnot. The year Ale started playing however, I did my research and found Juve. :D Once I started watching Juve though Zidane would become my favourite. Ale is my second favourite.
