Which ONE transfer was the biggest mistake? (12 Viewers)

Agree, it is a series rather than one transfer.
We should have most definatley brought Mascherano and Xabi Alonso.
Instead we spent 20m on Amauri, who for some reason is justified to have that amount spent on him because he played for an Italian team rather than being a world class player like the other two aforementioned.
Poulsen being the other 'big' signing
Neglecting those that at the time were ready to make a jump from primavera to the first team.
The whole Diego issue, from when we brought him to when we sold him.
Ignoring the fullback issues constantly.
But for me I think the biggest issue is not replacing the likes of Trez Alex and perhaps Nedved with adequate replacements. In our first season back the team was dragged up the table by these three still world class players, from the old juventus dynasty and as they became older in the seasons after and couldn't play as much/retired/got forced out, there has been no replacement of these classes but rather a leathal injection of mediocrity. This for me is truly where the team has lost it's way.
There's also a lot to think about if DD hadn't left, there was no doubt to the mans ambition.

yeah same here.waay Too many to pick from, but signing a known injury prone player like Andrade for 10 millions just to throw him away a year later for nothing, signing amauri for 20 mil's + throwing 12 millions on Martinez got to be my top 3 worst signings (perhaps ever).
Almost too many mistakes to name.
The single biggest failure in terms of player transactions was obviously (IMO) purchasing Amauri for 22.8M euros (Not including Nocerino) the summer after our legendary ADP - Trez partnership flat out dominated Calcio by scoring 41 league goals.
That money should have been spent upgrading our defense. The quickest way to succeed (in virtually all team sports - unless you're blessed with the good fortune of multiple, young, otherworldly offensive talents), almost always occurs by building from the back out; you simply need that foundation to help neutralize growing pains... which obviously helps explain the extent of our current problems. We're always vulnerable, leak goals like a fucking sieve, and it prevents other players from being able to focus properly on their own position.
It's a bit like if one injures their knee, and doesn't properly care for it. They wander around compensating for the pain by shifting their weight (balance), and low and behold, suddenly they've developed a fucking hip issue on top of the knee injury... and without serious attention, things can really spiral out of control from there.
