I hope that from now on... with a simply "stay on topic people"... things will return to normal!!. :)
Maybe instead of being too direct, the mods can actually try to "lure" the posters into staying on topic by maybe initiating a reponse/convo that is relating to the thread subject itself - manouvre the direction of the thread so as not to derail itself. Open up a few questions if need be...

Maybe they can give it a try. I saw it work on some of the other forums I visited. But us posters have to play a part in this too and not just depend on the mods to do this job. :)

There are so many suggestions in this thread. I think the mods could get together in a meeting to come up with the most feasible solution.

OK, I decided to check the thread in question, because I knew you picked it because i had something to do with it. Something that I've already admitted to being guilty of.

Out of 527 posts, exactly 13 had something to do with that discussion.

Mind you, half of those posts had a little off-topic, and a little bit of subject matter about the game and some of the highlights that they were showing, because I was watching it on TV and relaying some of that info to people.

I also noticed that you didn't happen to be one of those people who were on the thread at the time of the game, and if you also notice, all that banter went on after the game was over. If you bothered to check the thread before all of these posts, (which I'm sure you didn't) you will notice that I was one of the people trying to give as much information as possible to the other posters who didn't have means to see the game or be able to read transcripts in Italian. However, you conveniently fail to mention that.

Look, you can PM me anytime you want if you have any particular grievance with me, and we can discuss it like adults, or you can bring it out in the open and we can deal with it that way.

Either way is fine with me.
I do not have to PM you at all and I do not have any greivance with you in particular but what you were trying to say in your previous post is that you do not see any threads going off topic and there you were talking about music

I do believ you were watching Parma vs Milan at the time, so was I and with the greatest r espect I do not come on the forum to read about play by play of Juve's games as I have the means to see most of it but what I would not do out of respect to others who do not have the means of watching Juve is to come on here and be talking about things which have nothing to do with the said game

I just went on Poland vs Italy and lo and behold there is a picture of a scantily clad lady, and you wonder why I think this forum is being spoilt by certain individuals who constantly do this sort of stuff.

We all have the ability or whatever to come on here and misbehave and spoil other ppl's good work, its just some have respect for others feelings more than others

If you think I am pickiing on you well nowt i can do about that , I was talking to all and sundry who feel they are amusing or clever ,by talking completely off point and off topic, once in a while is a treat, constantly is a nuisance

Great idea, seriously. And instead of just saying it casually, they could make it obvious that the reason for their on-topic post is to get the thread back on-topic. Maybe they could just underline the whole post or put it in a different colour, then maybe if at least the next 15-20 posts after that aren't on-topic, they take action :scared: That way, if people have nothing to say about the actual topic, they can just stay away from the thread.

Hopefully if we do this, people who want to talk off-topic won't be desperately waiting for 15-20 posts, and then post something stupid, then say "what!? I followed the rules"

on a more on-topic note, I think there needs to be a number next to each thread, which denotes how close the mods are to closing the thread depending on how on-topic/useful it is...

a scale of 1-10 would be great

and it would give the posters a chance to redeem themselves by getting on topic again.

Maybe they shouldn't do it for every thread... it'd be too much of a bloody hassle for them, and they won't bother changing the rating from 1 to 2, then 3 and 5 and blah blah...so maybe just have a green/red light next to the thread to show which ones are in danger.

Also remember that they're also limited by what the forum programming allows.

Hmmm ratings like that probably won't be that effective. We've got hot folders and new folders, but they count for sweet f.a.

Bring on the traffic lights!

Green = all is well
Yellow = be careful guys
Red = situation critical

:)

We can create a secret group, made with 5 members of the forums called the "On TOPIC SqUad". They will have the mission to find and reárail each thread that goes off topic... When one members find an off topic warning.. he/she call the other 4 members and start to fix the thread with lots of on topic post :)

Like a secret society :p

Or can we ordinary forum users just PM the mods when we've had enough of an off topic thread?

Since it might be too much work for a "committee" to glance through everything in Juventuz.

The traffic light idea is Gray's and I like it too but it might not be too efficient since it'll be one hell of a workload for all the mods. However I'm all for it if they don't mind working extratime!:D

Howbout having 2 threads for each match ? One for Pre-Game discussion and one for discussion during the game, results, post match analysis etc ?

we just use a [P] (preview) or [R] (Result) as a Suffix at the end of each match related thread so users know which thread they need to use for what.

over here, even a Juventus - Modena match thread will probably go to 20-30 pages if not more.... so it will be a good idea to have 2 seperate threads in my opinion.

I believe Mods should prevent / delete off topic discussion if it goes too far.

Thats how I do it at Soccergaming and works pretty well.

thx ;)

It won't be that much of a workload. The default setting would be green, and if the thread starts going off-topic, the status can be updated at the click of a button.
