why do you think people get divrces? because they are unhappy. even science has shown that love between a man and a woman after the first year only goes downhill. i can see that i wasnt very clear on my comment.
Of course unhappy and what the culture teaches you which is to have a change now and again. Marriage has become nothing more than a game in this culture. The pop stars are usually influencing the rest just in this. Its all about sex. Once you get tired having that with your partner, its time to move on. First year does go downhill or for some its uphill, nevertheless the giving up mentality and the ability to look at a woman as a sexual object its primarily the reason behind this. One of the prime reasons in may go downhill is due to additional responsibility as well, which exists in every culture.

Well you know what? I do look at women as sexual objects. Shocked? I like to see them naked. Terrified? I like to have sex with them. Oh dear, you must be shitting yourself. Men look at sexy women, women look at sexy men. It's what we're made for FFS.

 of course not, it doesnt take a genious to see that and neither was i being sceptic about it. I was explaining the difference and rather that explanation was down to why marriages go down the drain.

Phrozen, I'm not pointing out my beliefs about this issue. The author's knowledge about the Roman and Greek culture is simply so pathetic that he can't possibly discuss about the position of women in those cultures. His arguments make no sense. If he knew the first thing about the Greek culture he would know that it was a man who opened Pandora's box ;). Case closed.

but pandora was the first woman created as an affliction to men...

What I'm saying here is that you look at things too one-sided. You use articles from an author who dismisses entire cultures and replaces them with simple propaganda and you yourself don't take biological issues into account.

The main point here being biological issues, its biological to you but not me. I mean you can wank whenever you wish but I dont see the need or point to, that by no means makes me a less of a man than you. I try to keep my body in best of shapes and sex usually irreplaces your hormones everywhere, that is by no means balance. Anyway as much advantages it does bring, I aint here to talk about science but rather the sociological aspect of society, religion and culture. Maybe we can create a science thread some day..

If the Greeks were really as misogyn as people are trying to say here, then why does Sophocles pick Antigone as protagonist and Creon as antagonist. Moreover why do the two both commit hubris and why do both sisters try to do the right thing?

And what about Aristophanes?

and andromaque(though trojan), and penelope... no matter how mysogynistic they still had mothers and sistes.

- vOnAm -, I can see where you're arguing from, but I don't agree. Forcing someone to removing any source of temptation for you doesn't show respect for them. It shows a fear of your own inability to control yourself. I rank that argument up there with that one about girls wearing short skirts being at fault for rape.

For the other side of the argument, covering your hair isn't a million miles from wearing a hat - once an important item of clothing in the West. We're not much more than a century from a society that thought that a woman showing her ankles was a disgrace too. I don't want to imply that that's a terrible thing either. We're making a big deal out of an arbitrary line in the sand. How many of you can walk naked in public? Why not? Clothing is a very cultural thing. I'd be far more concerned about things like voting rights, access to education and the freedom to chose your own path in life.
Well in some cases forcing and teaching are somewhat alike. Its like telling your kids not to eat insects and bugs or worms because in their culture those aren't really proper foods although they wont kill ya.

While they may be proper foods in other cultures. Does than mean other cultures have the right to push the culture that forbids their children to eat bugs and worms to let their kids eat them?

Regardless how high in protein they are :D

Some things considered ok in one culture may validly be considered wrongs in another. As to the whole why hijab thing, well Prozhen, among others, has spoken about it. Its a belief, its part of a religion which is part of a way of life.
