I love natural stone slate tiles. Especially thicker grades. They cost a small fortune, but look beautiful and will last centuries.
But metal roofs are great. Because they’re so cost effective, and much more durable (and far less problems) than asphalt or wood shingles, we spec them on a lot of the houses we build. Standing seam only though, as having the screw heads exposed is a pretty bad idea both for durability and aesthetics (likely need to replace every screw on the roof every 5-10 years if done this way).
The other benefit with steel is you can put a small solar panel setup on it without too much trouble. And panels are still vastly cheaper, and far more efficient than the integrated solar roofs by Tesla and other companies. The idea is cool and the aesthetic can be nice, but they need to get the cost down and efficiency up to make it a better option.
