What if I want to listen to music that's not on spotify
Download it and put in your spotify offline library.

I have in one single spotify playlist (of the many I have) 10 times more music then I ever had in half decade of using mp3 players. Its 100 times more practical and easier hassle free way to listen to music. Defenitely makes me listen to music way more.

There is no way one can go back to or accept the limitations of a mp3 player after that.

Its not a spotify thing tho, even if its what I use, theres several of other options that you can use.

that's why manufacturers started to come out with plenty of streaming dap's. the cheapest is probably the fiio m6, and for the price of a midrange phone, you can get something that will last you for years, and will sound much, much better than any phone. to replace my ipod 5g that recently died (served me since 2005, rip), i'm eyeing an ibasso dx160: https://headfonics.com/2019/12/ibasso-dx160-review/ runs android, has a large screen, can be used as an usb dac, can do tidal/spotify offline, and sounds way better than phones. there are plenty of other similar products too.

can that connect to a network besides WiFi?

Phones are just so convenient for every day use. It’s all in one.

unfortunately no. these are like an ipod touch with android and much better sound.

i bought my previous phone to suit my music playing needs too. it was a chinese phone with a proper dac and headphone amp chip, and it sounded better than an average phone. unfortunately, since apple removed the jack from the iphone, most manufacturers started to profit from the wireless earphones market, and the jack is basically forgotten. in the last couple of years, lg is the only "big" manufacturer that keeps the jack (see this head-fi thread for other references: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/best-smartphone-for-audiophile-part-ii-updated-jan-2020.853115/), so you get limited options. currently, getting a separate small device like a dac/amp is probably the best option for listening music on the go.
