If I'm being honest here, I have zero sympathy for people who die in natural disasters.

You either have days or hours, hell, sometimes weeks, to prepare. The only ones which you really don't are tornados or earthquakes, which, realistically, there is an assumed risk these things happen as there are areas more geographically notorious for them. Don't live on a fucking fault line in Japan and cry when your Playstation is swallowed by the ground.

If you don't like the risk, move. It's all chance, it's all risk. Don't want to die in a hurricane, move to Michigan, don't want to die in a wildfire, get out of California. It's that simple. Also, don't reply back with "they can't" and cite some bullshit about needing money to move, is your life worth your house? Cubans make it to Miami every year on doors and rafts made out of Dasani bottles.

I'm not sure it's that simple. More than ever in a specialized society, where you live has to do with where you can find gainful employment. You can be smug about "serves you right for living near a fault line", but technically there wouldn't be any life on earth without fault lines. And I include the life underwater. There wouldn't be food, places that grow it, and an atmosphere that shields us from cosmic rays if it weren't for the many factors that make the earth's surface dangerous at times.

I'm all for personal responsibility. But there are a lot of reasons why the nation's capital and economic engine isn't in Morgantown, WV. It's not even practical.

Which daily activity doesn't assume many risks of sudden death? Your lack of sympathy is more to do with proximity than reason of death, sympathy, real sympathy, is exhaustible.
