Got a gig down at this pub tonight. I've been through a "divorce" for a while now, not that we were "married' as in signed proper marriage or anything, we lived together.

Long story short... This danish chick who was part of my life in the past had left to Denmark and is now back for good. We've been talking over the phone for a week and we'll meet tonight there. Yeah, butteflies like I'm a fucking kid. Anyway, makes me wonder if somethings are meant to be. Guess I'll know soon enough.

Interesting. The best cocktail bars are in some of the divey-est parts of town, like the Tenderloin, and that includes places like Tradition, Bourbon & Branch, Whiskey Thieves and Rye. Not a neighborhood you would want to stay in, but walking distance from a few worthy neighborhoods. Some newer bars are nearby the Tenderloin at the Twitter end of mid-Market, like Benjamin Cooper and Forgery. And the thing is, there are a lot of decent new restaurants there now too like Cala, Whitechapel, and Little Gem.

So my point is if you want cocktail bars and restaurants nearby that are rather new and, dare I say, hip, that area around Twitter is booming -- near the Civic Center at 9th or 10th and Market. Depends on how much you like that and how you might want to impress your travel partner.

If you want something more classically San Francisco, with a great nightlife and good food, the North Beach/Chinatown area is great. Just if you don't have to park anywhere, which is kind of a nightmare.

And if you're not staying the night, the Mission District is loaded with bars and good restaurants and has a really active vibe. (Just not many places to stay unless you AirBnB it.)

Parking in San Francisco was annoying, true. And that's coming from a European. I can't imagine how shocked other Americans must be
