Are Beats even any good? I've never tried a pair, but I've heard they're pretty crap.

Yea,they are awesome. The depth is really great, they are overpriced in any case, but they are good. Tried them at a Best Buy.

They're terrible for whatever purpose. Hiphop music is mixed to be bass heavy - so as long as you've got precise headphones the mix will shine through just fine. Headphones that equalize your music are just an insult.
