Some of the people we hire goes through about 5 rounds and in the IT industry 6-8 rounds are also not uncommon. At least in the big firms.

thats brutal, as for the IT industry this might be an india thing, i worked in IT all my hires only needed a phone interview and a face to face.

the indians in the group like to grill candidates technically but this soon turns into straight up bullying, i personally think any formal interview should not last longer than an hour. My worst "interview" to date was the final foreign service one which was an all day activity packed ordeal with geriatrics
