You'll find that there's a lot of weird stuff going on between 1981-1985 in their discography. Many catchy tracks from this era, though, but alot of their tracks were just so weird
To really appreciate the older DM-stuff, you should check out the 3 big beastly albums I mentioned first, so that you're fully comfortable with their sound and the fact that they are geniuses (particularly Martin Gore, the main songwriter). After that, the older albums will make more sense (as in; you will be able to track how they developed their sound).
