How important is knowing the Danish language in getting a job there?

It's all defining. I can't remember who it was, but a few years ago I was reading the paper and a readers letters was on one of the pages. An Iraqi surgeon was in Denmark for a couple of years and he couldn't get a job. The closest he got to his profession was working as a male nurse. One day the guy decided "fuck this shit" and went to America, now he's widely acknowledged as one of the leading experts on that area. Sorry I'm speaking in very vague terms, but I can't remember the specifics.

My mom is a lawyer, once in X-Yugoslavia and then a second time in Denmark, she can't get work as a jurist but works as a secretary. Tough terms for anyone with an eastern accent.

Anybody with performance linked pay dealing with people lives is in danger of a soulless existence.

I lived with one and the shit they spun and the genuine UK people turned down for more $ from non-english speaking Chinese student was disgusting, a microcosm of privatised education.

I'm a proponent of performance linked pay in general, so i don't really agree with that statement. Its how you define "performance" that is the problem. What your trying to say is when performance is defined narrowly as how much $ in sales you make, and when the vast majority of your pay is linked explicitly to how much dollars you make, then that becomes a problem. Especially in the education sector, generally commission based salaries in university admission jobs are frowned upon. Admission officers should provide more of a counseling service than actually being full fledged sales people.
