Hey All
Sally what do you do for work?
I am hungover at work
She looks for other jobs, silly.
Doing my research for my thesis, right wing newspapers are obssessed with protests, the majority of my articles in both samples are from ring wing papers...all having a go at protestors. The left wingers just say what happened and what it was about, the right wing just sneer at protesters relentlessy, its depressing....really depressing. Its like the catholics obsession with sex.
Dissent is a dirty bomb in conservative circles. There's a sort of "you must be obedient, take your sufferings, and like it" mentality and respect for authority. But in the past couple decades in the U.S., that has crumbled on the right wing. Now every sitting president who wasn't the guy you voted for, whether you're left or right, is either a money-gifting communist or a bloodthirsty Nazi and it's "the worst president evaaah".
We've really become a political system of hyperbole here. Which has its comic value. But it absolutely prevents anybody from getting anything done. Last weekend when I was watching
Tropa de Elite 2, there front and center were all the ugliness and waste of a democratic society right on display. It was actually a little depressing and suddenly makes you consider that dictatorships and unquestionable rule like they have in China isn't 100% bad.
