Sorry Greggo but Parks is all about the characters

absolutely brilliant actors playing great roles. I never give credit to actors but these folks are funny unlike the office and other dumb shows

The kings of American deadpan mockumentary comedy have to be Christopher Guest/Michael McKean/Harry Shearer/et al. Whereas I thought Spinal Tap was hilarious, and Best In Show, Waiting for Guffman was just insufferable.

There's a certain forced comedy that doesn't work for me based on the notion of small-town players and their petty problems trying to be big-pants/big-city movers and shakers. And that's where Parks & Rec fails for me. I don't think that vein of jokes is funny at all.

My wife thought Waiting for Guffman was funny while I wanted to put a power drill through my skull watching it with her. But I grew up in Chicago and she grew up in the farmville of Napa. I think that has something to do with whether you think that's funny or not.

For standup to be funny it has to be original and the comedian has to deliver it correctly. Most of the random comedians I've seen on tv tend to struggle with one of or both of those aspects.
